Factory 1964-1966 tilt steering column Question Yes or No

I have a gentleman that says he has a factory 1966 tilt column. He has been messing with the 64-66 trucks for over 40 years. He says its a factory tilt. It looks like it is. But I was wanting to see if any of you hardcore 1964-1966 guys knew if there was actually a option for a tilt column? I dont have any pics. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

They say Big Foot exists in the forrests of northern California, but I've never seen him. At least I've heard of him. I've never heard of the '66 tilt column.

I've never seen one, either in person or on a build sheet, but that doesn't mean it may not exist.

You could probably retrofit one from a similar year Impala or Caprice. You would have to address the end-to-end length, and the car columns of that era had rag joints and an intermediate shaft with the swivel coupling. If you did this retrofit to a truck, you could utilize the collapsable intermediate shaft, and that would be a nice upgrade, from a safety standpoint.

Take a look at the column and see if it's a 1-piece shaft from the steering wheel to the steering box. If it's not, then it's not from a 1964-1966 truck.

Re: Factory 1964-1966 tilt steering column Question Yes or No

I will check and see on steering shaft. Were redoing a 64 swb for my wife and my father in law found this column. We mainly mess with the 68-72 swb trucks. Figured we would use one of those columns we would use one of those. But if this gentleman believes he has what he thinks he has and It could be proven I am definitely interested in it.

Well, I did find a piece of info on the internet saying they had a tilt wheel in 1965. Now if that's true or not, who knows. Just trying to see if any purest know or will say.

Man, I gotta get me one of those! I like that a lot. It looks 100% legit, too.

C/10 King: You constantly raise the bar. You've got a tilt in THREE of your trucks. You are a maniac!
