I'm thinking of putting an aftermarket radio in the heater/A.C. control spot. Possibly using a radio delete plate behind it so no holes show through the edge. Then i was going to use the Vintage A.c. controls that are the 3 round knobs and put them in the original radio spot using a radio delete plate behind them. Would it look goofy having the a.c. controls above the radio in the middle of the dash? I can do it either way, but I was trying to think outside the box so to speak. Opinions wanted.

I think it could be a neat twist to the look of your truck

I am working on the same issue and pla to do the same thing. Use a radio delete to hold the A/C controller. I am welding in the edges of the original heat/AC hole so it will be DIN size. I liked the look and I also like the eletcronic vice cable controls for the heat/AC that the Vintage Air or Old Ait systems offer.

thats what i did with my 69, no pics of it tho. i didnt have to cut the dash at all.

I thought about moving the stereo down there but decided it was too low on the dash to be convenient. I tend to mess with the stereo way more than the climate control and wanted it closer. Here is what I recently did with mine.

I think it would be cool, and save our dash. Most radios come with a remote (which I use in my car) so that I can keep my eyes on the road and search channels, volume etc...

I plan on hiding a new CD player in my glovebox, I have an NOS AM radio for my dash and keep original Heater controls...

Some radios have an external remote sensor which I plan to run. Then the cab will look stock until you drop the glovebox...

Both of these guys did theirs that way. Looks pretty good. Like BigSky said, it probably depends on how much u fiddle with that radio.... I apologize for stealing other people's pics~

thatd look good. better than cuttin up the dash. if ya like to mess with your radio a bunch, get on of them fancy one's that has the remote control with it. chris.

I like it. I let a local radio installer cut me some pieces of ABS to trim out the sides of my radio so that it didn't have any gaps. Looks really nice. Fits good.

I do also have a remote, and I use it, just so I don't have to fiddle with the radio. Most radio's come with a remote now anyhow.

(Mine is the Orange one of course). I can send you the drawing on the plate I used for my A/C controller mount. I sent it to Palf already.

I know you want opinions to help you make up your mind. But its your truck and you know what will work better for you. Are you going to actually use the remote? Do you want it easy to reach? Are you going to be installing and more speakers or anything after the deck is installed in the dash? Just a few things to consider. Plus if you want to test your talent with a new upgrade and want to be different then do it. No matter what it is YOUR TRUCK! This is half the fun making the big decisions that will mold what your truck is going to be when completed.

But here is what you want to hear. My opinion is... I like them both, both offer great benifits. But if i had to lean one way i would go were the stock radio was.

Either way you go... would you take a lot of pics to show how you did it and the progress you are at?
