finding a rolling 4wd chassis w/ tranny and transfer case. Would be the easiest. Then you could just transfer the cab/bed and engine from your 72.
If you wanted to keep your 2wd frame and put axles under it you'll need all of the spring hangers from a donor truck, plus the cross member for the tranny/tc, as well as the tranny and tc. The axles can be from 71 and up if you want to keep disc up front. You'll need new flexible brake lines up front.
In the rear if you have coils and want lift then you'll need to swap them out w/ leaf springs and will need all the frame brackets as well. The only concern here would be the frame bulges out but should not effect placement of the brackets.
I'd say find a 71/72 rolling chassis swap the sheet metal over and sell your 2wd rolling chassis.

I have a chassis that has all you will need as I'm going to the 2-wheel configuration and will part with the '74 parts as a package
very reasonable.
Thanks

I have a 1972 K20 rolling chassis for sale. If you are interested email through the Board and I will send you some pictures. Chassis is located in central Virginia and could be easily trailered or dollied to NC. Asking price is $600. Thanks.
