lift question

I read on this forum that when you get a complete lift kit that the rear is two inches highter to make a level ride. Is this the norm. I want to get lift springs front and rear without buying the whole kit and need what to order. Thank you for any help.

Reverse Rake?

The 1stGen K/5s have a perceived "drop" on the lower axle. Someone said this was due to the weight of the heavy fiberglass top. Adding 2" to the rear would give a more level looking stance.

I had a Rancho 4" lift for the last 15 years. There is a mildly noticeable height difference bteween the front and rear, but not radically obvious. This happened with the hard top on or off. This lift had stock rear springs, with lift blocks. I just installed a Skyjacker 4" lift (Softride). What can I say, I'm getting too old for the stiff kits. Still using rear blocks, but haven't had a good look to tell you if it's different. Another possibility could be the rear fenders are not cut as high into the body as the fronts, so it may be an optical illusion, making it look like the rear droops lower. Just my 2 cents..........

For what it's worth, my 70 K-5 has a 6" Tuff Country EZ Ride. After I installed the kit the back was sittin' a little low so I added 2" blocks. You can see here what it looks like:

Thats just 6"? What size tires 38.5s?

I used 4" front springs and 6" rears with the overlaod removed. Rides great but the blazers use a rear spring with a large arch so its hard to get a good ride for the street without flipping the rear shackle.

I have a sky jacker 4". It sits 1-1.5" lower in the back with the top on, but level with it off

Yea - 6" suspension lift and 3" body lift with 38.5x15.5x15 Super Swamper TSLs. This is my second lift. The first lift was a set of 4" springs in front and shackle relocators in the rear. DON'T DO THIS. It makes the rear diff. shift forward and cuts down on your tire size. But then I got the fever and decided that 4" lift with 33's wasn't enought so here it sits now!

Is this a 4" lift?

I just bought this truck and it has 2-3" blocks in the rear, and I guess lift leafs in the front........they seem to have the front at least 4" higher than stock, and about 6" higher than I'd like......

Not sure how they lift the front as much as they do...the springs have only minimal arch and there don't seem to be any shackles......

Tires are 32"

My skyjacker softride came with 4" fronts and 6" rears (so said the stickers on them). I thought it was to compensate for the top but then I heard that rear spring lengths between 1st and 2nd gen are the same so they use the same spring. The 2nd gen spring hanger sits lower than the 1st gen so while a spring marked 6" for a second gen would give a 6" lift, the same spring used on a 1st gen would only give it a 4" lift. I've not confirmed this but makes since. Anyone else? By the way, after installing the lift, my blazer sat a little taller in the back than the front with top on or off. Looked great in my opinion.

It's hard to tell what lift you havefrom looking at the picture, but for your information, the front springs from the factory were pretty flat (maybe even a little inverted). Also if the rear springs are the originals and they have never been work on the you can expect that they have sagged over the years. That would explain the reason it sits a little lower in the rear even with the blocks because you probably still have the original springs.

By the way.....your truck look nice!

Well Mr. XCLR8OR, with a 4" lift and 35" tires, I'm looking at 43" from the ground to the top center of the front fender. I have a 7' opening in my shop, and about 2" of clearance over the hard top when driving in. Hope this satisfies your curiosity.

Yup. Here's a pic of my baby from 18 months ago. I hope to colorize it this fall. The fender cutouts are from the previous owner, who had 36/14.5's on it. I will be covering those with Bushwackers.

My Blazer that you see pictured above is 49 1/2" front and 50" rear.

6" Suspension Lift (with additional 2" blocks in rear)
3" Body Lift
38.5"x15.5"x15 Tires.

Well I got 44.5" front and 43" rear with about 6" suspension rear and 5" front 35" worn BFGs and a 1" body lift. I can just squeeze into the garage, my plan for 38.5s will put me over the edge I'm sure.
BTW I like the look of the nittos.
