No oil to top end

I have an unknown 396 in my truck and was having some noise trouble. I had a small tap that was really getting on my last nerve. I ended up finding out I had 3 collapsed lifters and a bronze looking material (kind of like very very very fine glitter) mixed in the oil that was under the intake. I pulled the magnet after and there was nothing stuck to it so I dont know where this material came from. I ran the engine with the valve covers off very shortly and had very little oil coming through the rockers. After the lifters were put in I torqued the rockers back down and put the motor back together.

After I primed the motor it started on the first crank. Only problem now is there is no oil at all coming through the top end. My dad seems to think it is a spun cam bearing blocking an oil hole.

What do you guys think it could be?

Re: No oil to top end

material in pan says metal to metal contact, you just gotta tear it apart and find where.

Re: No oil to top end

There was none on the magnet or in the oil I drained (that I could see).... There was a few little puddles of oil under the intake manifold and it was in them. I will probably end up sending it to a machine shop but I was just wondering if anyone had ideas before I sent it out.

The thing that gets me is the magnet would have a dusting of this stuff if it was metal but the magnet was clear.

Drop the oil pan and check the pick up tube.

Bearings aren't made of steel. You might want to look at the pushrods are make sure they have a clear hole through them. Good luck
