Any way to tell if these are OEM?

I just bought these rom a fellow who said his Dad had owned these for years and he died and these were up on a shelf. I took a chance on buying them but I am not really with short stepside fenders. There are no ID marks on them anywhere.

From what little I can see, they look like they may be NOS. They look like they have been around longer than they have been repoping them. Depending on price I would probably buy them, especially if I thought I might have a use for them in the future, if not they may be better than money in the bank.

Hard to say. The fit will tell. Mine are early so no hole drilled for the side marker light wires

I have not seen any of the reproduction fenders in person so I'm not the definitive resource but they look a lot like the fenders I just sold (rusty) and the good ones I have to put on my truck.

The guy I bought my truck from purchased the good fenders at a swap meet over ten years ago it they still had "$350 for the pair" in yellow marker on them. I'd say a good pair of original stepside fenders would go for more than that these days.

Mine are going on a 67 and I wish I could find some original fenders in the same shape without the side marker openings. I have only found one set and the guy wanted almost what I gave for the whole truck.

I too am looking for a set of 67 fenders, But so far this is what I could find. Paid $320 for the pair and repops cost more than that for just one fender. Some day when I can get a look at a repop I will pay more attention.

Thanks 67. I have been dealing with these trucks for almost 40 years and owned more than 30 of these trucks, but have not done any work on stepsides. So I am learning. I am glad o thear you think I did OK. I have seen people asking a lot more money for a pair of OEM so I figured it was worth the risk. I am still looking for some 67 fenders because I would hate to cut these up to fill in the marker holes.

Could I bother you for a measurement of how long your fender is? A different thread was a comment that short bed fenders were shorter than long step fenders. I have several sets of known long steps fenders for comparison.

They look OE judging by the mounting flange, this is usually where the repro manufacturer has trouble replicating

The sure way to differentiate oem from repro body panels is by looking at the spot welds, oem spot welds are large diameter, between 1/4-3/8”, some, if not all of them are deeply recessed too.
Repro junk always has much smaller diameter spot welds and virtually none of them are recessed.

The spotwelds in the marker lamp pocket are great examples of oem spot weld depth and diameter.

Do they usually paint the screw clips for the corner lights with Nos? just curious.

NOS parts almost never have any other parts attached to them that have separate part numbers...the j clips are one example. Those are probably not NOS fenders, looks like grey primer under the black and dirt or corrosion under the black on the back side.

They may be repops if they haven't been sanded and primed. My clips are different as is the reflector bucket. No holes for mine and the bucket is smooth without any waves .

I just looked at the one that I replaced with tire mount fender. The side marker buckets shape doesn't look the same . Now this may be because mine were early stamps and yours could be the millionth.

My repop fender does not have the big hole in the side marker light for the wiring. My OEM fender on the other side does. I would guess these are OE fenders by looking at them compared to the fenders I have.
