New Avatar and Nostalgia - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Since my truck is in pieces all over the garage, I couldn't really take a picture of it for my avatar. So I checked the "archives". I took this picture about 20 years ago when my '68 was still doing active duty on the farm.

I almost got misty-eyed thinking about how I grew up with that truck. I was born in the '68 model year, so the truck has been a part of my entire life. My folks had a camper on it for its first 10 years so I've got great camping memories with the truck. After that my dad began using it to haul eggs to the city (yes I grew-up on a poultry farm) and I spent my summers going with him. I learnt to drive in that truck and I can still hear my dad yelling "The clutch, press the clutch!!!" as we headed for a dead end the first time I drove it.

Anyway, I could go on and on. I'd be interested in hearing some of your stories. Yes, our trucks are the best looking trucks on the road, but they reach a whole different level if they evoke good memories.

I haven't been lucky enough to have had my truck for as long as I've known like you have, but I already have a ton of memories regarding it.
My dad and I bought my truck sight unseen on eBay, and rode Greyhound to Minnesota thru a humdinger of a blizzard to get it. We carried a few small hand tools, and upon inspection of the truck, it appeared solid. Well, it made the trip all the way back to Ohio. I really enjoyed taking the trip with my dad, being a college student means I see my family less and less, so it was nice to be around him for a few days straight, and just shoot the breeze.

the truck just passed the 6k mile mark, and I love my truck. No problems yet.

Don't have any memories quite as good as yours, but I know that I've always wanted a 1972 Cheyenne Super for as long as I can remember. I remember in the 80's when they were really cheap, and I couldn't afford one. I have had several trucks since then, but always dreamed te dream. I watched these wonderful trucks become very popular and demand a pretty penny. Finally I was able to buy my dream truck, and I've never been happier! My wife was happy to finally see me put my heart and soul (not to mention money) into something that I would keep. I hope that someday my daughter will think the truck as cool as I do and drive it to schoool. I guess in the end I hope to create memories for my daughter as wonderful as yours.

...It would have been to have been born early enough to have purchased one of these trucks new off the production line. I'll never know the feeling of being the "original" owner. Just sumthin I guess I wil always long for. I can't help but feel how nice it would be to see my truck "grow up" in front of my eyes...

i remember when i was about 5 years old my dad had a 71 gmc 1/2 ton, we were coming up the hill into the town and i was like open the 4 barrelers! i mustve heard him b.s'ing with the neighbour or somethin

Got a one owner setting in my basement garage right now . It belongs to my brother-in-law who bought it new in 1972 for $3775.00!! --72 Cheyenne with all options. Has 162,000 miles. We are in the process of renewing it with all new trim inside and out and a stripped to metal repaint. Have already rebuilt 350 motor and trans.-new windshield. It still looks real good but he (73 years young)wants it back to new condition while he can still work on it some.

Yeah, not a GM, but I love it. 1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix... 2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo 1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best. Past: '05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner. '94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.
