Repro fender fit?
Do the reproduction 68 fenders fit good ? look good? And if so , who makes them best?

I've heard that Tri-plus fenders are very good.

i just installed the tri-plus and i am having an extremely hard time getting the original innser fenders to line up. the holes for the hood rubbers are wrong. most of the holes for the alignment are off by about 1/4 to 1/2inch. next project will be alot more expensive. NOS parts only next time!

From my experience the ones labeled Tri Plus, Key parts or Counterpart are one of the better fitting fenders.. although pretty nice they do need some massaging...
Stay away from ones labeled "Gordon? or ones that are stamped with a "YC" on the innerside just forward of the hood hinge mounting holes, these generally do not fit well at all. Chances are if you see them for sale new between $69-$99 ea retail you don't want them.. the better ones run about $150-$175 ea retail.. One hint, always test fit them before any paint work (I learned the hard way!!) The drivers side fenders upper rear mounting holes will need some opening up.. the general curve is a bit too much near the body line at the door (it stick out about 1/4" inch past the door) you will have to either "live with it" or cut the inner structure and push the fender in to line it up and then weld up the cut.. (not real difficult).. the passenger sides generally fit pretty good.. but some I have encountered had the bottom lower rear inner structure spot welded at a bit of an angle making it challenging to get the lower bolt in. you may have to drill out the spot welds on the under side of the fender, twist the structure and push it rearward a bit then reweld. All in all... they are not perfect, but they are new and rust free.. I have had oem fenders fit worse. |
