64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

This came in ascross the crusher I think it is a 64 from the vin, it has the 456 style ash tray that the p/u's used also the arm rests and mirrors ( someone hacked these off with a saw).

I am not very schooled on these so someone educate me please...
What drivetrain did they use ( corvair I am guessing )
What else do they share with the P/U's?
Is it worth saving from the Metal Monster ( crusher )

Not Corvair powered for sure. I've noticed interest is picking up a bit in the older vans, but I don't know enough to give you a value.
Saw this one recently and thought it was pretty cool.

No engine or trans left in this.... It has a cutch pedal but has a dial on the right of the gauge cluster that appears to say D R N for like Automatic

That body style was used up thru '71, and yes there is room for a V8 in there. I had a friend with a '68 and it had a 307 and a powerglide in it. The wheel bolt pattern should be 5 x 4.75. I have been wanting one of these old vans for a long time, but I just can't justify another project. That one appears to be in relatively good condition. I would save it if it were me

Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

The outside mirror screws are the original wide flange design for our trucks. My 1960 GMC came with them, and they are very rare if someone is looking for a set. I doubt they have much value however, and may be impossible to remove without damage.

The early screws looked like these with large serrated heads:

Later screws have smaller heads like these reproductions:

Lools like alot of the parts on the door are interchangeable, as well as alot of the switches. They came standard with the 153 4cyl which was rated at 90HP. Standard trans was a saginaw 3 speed or 2 speed powerglide. The optional engine was a 194 6cyl rated at 120HP. In 65, the standard engine was the 194 with the 230 6cyl 140HP engine being the option.

I am thinking the 250 boat engine I posted in another thread and a t-700 overdrive would be a sweet and cheap combination

Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

Brings back memories, that I really can't talk about here, of my buddy Bill's early 60's van that he had in the late 70's.

Information I can disclose:
It had a 327 with, believe it or not, 4 speed on the tree. (talk about a convoluted shift linkage). Man that thing could burn rubber (I swear the smoke was coming from the tires) .

Looked at the photos again. The passenger side rocker appears to be swiss cheese. Bummer, that. Is the whole floor shot? I dunno, maybe scrap it if it is.
