Need Help Finding Blazer VIN # - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 1972 Blazer that has been in my family since it was new, and was custom ordered by my father from a dealership. At some point in the late 80's or 90's the Vehicle ID plate on the driver's side dash went missing. I still have the VIN plate on the driver's door pillar, and althought I had the truck painted in 1999 and had peeled off the glove box door VIN decal/sticker at that time (in order to paint the inside of the glove box door), I did save the sticker itself.

However, it is the missing dash VIN that is giving me grief now that I have moved to CA and am trying to register it here. Can anyone tell me if there is an ID# stamped on the truck's frame that correlates to the VIN? I can find a rather long number stamped on the frame, but it bears no resemblance to a VIN number. I would like to find some kind of definitive proof that this vehicle belongs to me before I make the trip the Highway Patrol office in Wednesday, but really don't know where to look to find it.

67-72 did not have vin plates in the dash, only on door jam, some had a sticker on door, glove box sticker, and top of frame on drivers side by ps box, its kind of between ps box and motor mount on top side. This number will only be the last part of your vin number though. Most Hwy Patrols don't give you grief if two of the numbers match, as I say most the time there is only three spots for them to look. Thanks a lot. I found the number on the top of the frame where you described. Never would have found it myself with all the crud on top of it. It matched the last 8 numbers of my door pillar VIN. The State Police VIN inspector I talked to today was having a major fit, saying that because there was no dash VIN tag, I would have to drive the truck to a CHP office 20 miles south of here, and leave it with them "a day or two" while they researched the vehicle history.

They think they know everything but they don't, I don't either lol, there is one more place on the frame somewhere underneath that has the 8 #'s too, but I'm not sure where. If the 2 you have match like you say they shouldn't say a thing, tell them there was no dash vin, that started in 73 on chevy's. good luck.
