dash cluster fitment
I have a 78 k20 with a dash panel (cluster, gauges, etc) thats completely messed up from previous owners and is in need of a complete replacement.
I have a friend offering me a complete dash out of a 91 suburban and I am wondering if I will have to modify things or if it will simply plug and play? if it wont work, can somebody share a few links to where I might find a replacement dash other than LMC.

Re: dash cluster fitment
Unfortunately, the 91 cluster is just a little bit too new to be a direct plug-in swap into your 78.
I believe it was mid-way through the 1990 model year that GM changed the R/V series clusters over to an electric speedometer. If your truck is wired for a factory gauge cluster, you'll want to look for a replacement gauge cluster from a 78 - 87 (or up to early 90 R/V series) donor truck. The earlier years look similar but have wiring differences due to ammeters (73-75) and mechanical oil pressure gauges (73-77). And as mentioned, late 90 - 91 clusters are different due to the electric (vs. cable driven) speedometer. |
