A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings

I found a really nice semi old-school headlight option for anything with 7" headlights.
I originally bought them as an upgrade for my Jeep and they are so good that I picked up a second set for the C10.
These are quality glass housings, with good H4 bulbs, AND a pre-made relay harness.
You can order them thru your local Toyota dealer, or online. Generally they cost around $50ish if you shop around.
Part # 81110-60P70
Here's a link to an install on a TJ Jeep.

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings

I have heard of the Jeeps stuff being used. Found these in the 60-66 area of the board. Toyota H4 kit is supposed to also be good and it comes with harness and all to do conversion.

https://cruiserteq.com/oem-toyota-ko...kit-w-harness/

Haven't got them on the 70 yet, but hopefully will get to it soon.

Looks like a nice kit, especially for the price.

The cruiserteq kit is the same kit as the one I posted. Those are nice pics on their site since they show the harness. It’s well worth the $$. Check with your local dealer, they may be able to get it for less and no shipping (in my instance).

Yes, it comes with a nice relay harness. It’s the Toyota upgrade for the FJ40s

I am not a fan of headlights with the cutoff beam half way through the light. I understand it helps cars in front of you and coming towards you, but I like the full headlight.

That's fine, you can get get brighter lights that still have a good beam pattern and no cut off. The problem is when the lights are poorly engineered (read cheap), they can become more problematic for oncoming traffic.
Lights that are 1000+ Lux with a poor beam pattern and no cutoff are not just annoying to everyone else, they are dangerous.
Don't be that person.

Yes, there's a lot of crap out there, especially the HID conversions.

I'm not sure we can still get Cibie 7" headlamps anymore, but the Hella stuff is very good, especially the European (not DOT) spec lenses. And you can always go to higher wattage bulbs as long as your wiring can handle the additional current.

I also have to comment on the bluish bulbs. Blue light disperses like crazy, and while it can be seen from a long distance, it's terrible for lighting up the road in front of you, and just pisses off oncoming drivers.

Agreed as to HID conversions in housings designed for Halogen bulbs -- not good at all. Same with blue bulbs, I wish they were never made. They should be illegal, and that law should be strictly enforced.

As to 7" Cibie headlamps, I have had them for decades and love them. I prefer their beam pattern to Hellas. Yes, they are still available at Amazon of all places.

https://www.amazon.com/Cibie-82440-H...s%2C140&sr=8-1 and https://www.amazon.com/Cibie-082440-...s%2C140&sr=8-2.

Not sure why they are listed twice but it's the same item from the same seller at the same price. The second listing calls them fog lights (maybe for legal reasons?) but they are dual-filament H4 headlamps.
Also, note that the second listing does not state that bulbs are included.

That's awesome. I should have researched those a bit more.
I suppose if the Hellas ever get broken i'll get some of those.

Are you sure those are the same high/low beam lenses we used back in the day, and not special lenses for use in the fog?

Don't be that person.

I have Hella E-specs in my truck. You can pick them up off Amazon Warehouse for cheap when somebody returns them. Don't be the person that makes assumptions about others.

I bought Dapper OE7 with their 7" OE Glass upgrade. Cheap they are NOT, 100% satisfied I am. I even had a problem with one, getting a replacement bulb was easy as pie.

The cutoff doesn’t mean they are putting out less light. Wattage is the same. The difference is that the light beam is more focused and actually puts more light on the road surface. Why waste light up in the trees instead of on the road?

Yes. I have installed my 7" Cibies in at least three different vehicles without any issues. As with any headlamp (even stock), a relay upgrade is a plus.
