cheyenne package ?

I saw a 72 C/20 cheyenne longhorn in the paper for $800. I was wondering what the cheyenne package included. Can some one help me out? It sounds as if this would be a great truck to restor if it's in fair shape. I am planning to call the guy and go look at it tonight. I'll try to get some pics and post them when I get back. Thanks for the help guy's!

super cheyenne got the woodgrain bodyside modlings, , not the cheyenne, cheyenne is same as CSTm they are one in the same are Z84 RPO option. its comfort and appearance stuff only, vinyl door panels, and carpet and color matche interior and bright trim works all over exterior and extra body insulation and bright deluze dash control knobs, and cheynne side badges and something badge on glovebox door face

and probably also cargo area lamp and door operated dome lamp switches ad headliner equipment

not p/s or p/b or big engine or a/c or tilt or tach or anything like that unless was specifcially ordered, and are all separate unrelated options that were available just like Z84 cheyenne/cst was

cheyenne got black body side molding just as CST had

good luck

last week i finally saw a 72 Z84 Cheyenne green and ivory two tone with IL plates on it at local Wal Mart, and it is magazine quality nice- stock restored with a little drop and some bilet 15" wheels, or is all original 'imported' from other region somewhere else, and it has the black BX2 lowerbodyside wide moldings , so...

BX1 are the upper 69-72 moldings

are we sure about this ??

data sheets arent saying anything about whether the wide lower BX2 trim is black or woodgrain on YE9, Z84 or Z62 models..

cant say i recall ever seeing a Z84 CST/Cheyenne with woodgrain BX2 bodyside moldings,
a YE9 yes..... but a Z84 no...

wonder why the gm data sheets dont say anything about color of the moldings except for the tailgate, it does say that tailgate has woodgrain simulation on Z84 CST/Cheyenne, but says nothing about color of the side moldings

thanks!

My '72 Cheyenne has woodgrain lower moldings. They're the original, faded pieces on an unrestored pickup.

From what I know and was taught all cheyenne's and cheyenne supers had the lower woodgrain inserts. The upper mouldings were optional though on cheyenne's. I want to build a cst clone with lower black though. Just to be different.

Yep, and my 70 CST had factory wood grain too.
And the upper trim was in fact an option, even one the super.

Upper trim was standard on Supers-I have lit. to prove it. I checked all my literature and it says nothing about "woodgrain" trim on Cheyennes. BUT, it also says nothing about woodgrain trim on Supers, either!! It seems kinda odd to have woodgrain tailgate trim with black side trim. I have a 72 Cheyenne with the original paint, low miles, and I know the complete history of the truck. It has woodgrain lower trim.

Lots of "fakes" out there now...pretty easy to buy aftermarket stuff and turn any truck into a Cheyenne or a Cheyenne Super. This is something that has been going on in the Chevelle and Camaro circles/markets for many, many years....taking base model cars and making "SS" cars out of them.

It is only a matter of time before there are more "fake" Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super's out there than was ever made by GM....especially considering how popular these model trucks have gotten in the past few years, and also considering some folks dont know how, or don't have the resources, to truly investigate a trucks history. They see "Cheyenne" or "Super" on the trim and trip over themselves trying to get to their check books. Makes it tougher for the guys that have "true" high optioned trucks....

Ok first let me say that I am a builder/owner of one of these "fakes" that a previous poster spoke of. My truck started out as a custom 10 longbed with a few options. It had a/c posi-traction 3:07 rear and factory buckets. It is now a "fake" cheyenne that has been cut down and had a short bed added. The best truck enthusiasts cannot tell it has been shortened and I do not hesitate to tell that it used to be a longbed. with tilt, tach, and the previous options. I do not plan to hide this fact if I ever lose my mind and decide to sell my pride and joy. The point to this post is that there are a few negative comments towards people like me who cannot find a suitable truck to build that is all original factory cheyenne so they make their own! I see absolutely nothing wrong with this unless they decieve buyers or just out and out lie about it! These trucks are harder and harder to find and we should appreciate any nice truck that a person has put alot of work into....I will post pics when I get a scanner.

I didn't mean for my comments to be negative towards anyone, I only wanted to make the point that it is fairly easy for someone to build a "fake" and even easier for the builder to pass this truck off as a true "Cheyenne" or "Cheyenne Super" to somene fairly new to these trucks.

I agree that there is nothing wrong with someone building themselves a high option truck from a base model, I am all for building a truck the way "I want it." And I agree with Gene that it is wrong when a builder tries to sell one of these "fakes" as factory built truck.

No offense meant to anyone on the above post.....Sorry!

Before I removed all the trim from the 71 it was wood grain on the lower. I don't have the option sheet to look at right now, but I thought it said Z84 also. Not sure. It doesn't have the glove box decal or dash woodgrain either. My door panels were just the scrolled type with bright inserts. Guess you could get whatever you wanted or were willing to pay for like nowadays. Jeff.

Back to the original post...... that has the cheyenne super option as posted on the option list if the body and engine are in good shape then it would probably be a good buy... Just my opinion though!!!!

Hey Gene, I can vouch for Shane that nothing derogatory was meant by calling your truck a "fake." Maybe "home-made" or "self-upgraded" would be a better choice of terms. LOL It's just that some of us are "purists" and see value in restoring/preserving a truck just as it was when it rolled off the factory line, where the VIN and glove box option list match what the truck is. Most people, however, build their trucks to suit the owner, like yourself.

Glad to have you on the board, hope to see pics soon!
