Old member, new truck

So my girlfriend of three years broke up with me a few months back, and I was trying to figure out what to do with my time, and I said, "Hey, I need a squarebody project for a daily." Sounds normal, right? I picked up this 78 Custom Deluxe shorty today, good clean original truck for the most part, I think I'm the third owner now. Anyways, plans are get the mechanicals in order, 4/6 or 5/7 drop, and some 20" Coys next summer hopefully. It's been since 1996 since I've had a squarebody, so I'll be splitting my board time between here and the 67-72 side.

Thank you! I got a big folder of maintenance records with it, the truck was very well maintained. Looks like the motor only has about 30K on it. It's a Nevada truck originally, which explains the minimal rust for one of these around here. Not bad for $4K.

Thanks Lance, I must have spent too much time looking at squarebodys online, because I let this craze get a hold of me. I figured I'd get one now before the prices get any worse. It'll make a good daily, especially with the AC, and I forgot how much more room these have inside than the 67-72's. I'm 6'3" so I need the room.

I can completely identify. At the end of 2009, my wife's father passed and left her some $250,000. She announced that she was tired of being married, handed me the divorce papers and that was that!

It hurt at first because I always took my wedding vows very seriously and I slept well at night knowing that I had been as good a husband as I could be. I had just spent $2800 on the engine and another $400 on the trans not to mention becoming personal friends with LMC. And that truck had factory air in too - dang it! It still hurts to think about it.

So, here's what I learned from the experience. Old Chevy trucks are worth far more than narcissistic, disrespecting wives and/or girlfriends. Old Chevy trucks are more faithful, they are more loyal, more forgiving, easier to deal with, more rewarding and they just make you feel all around, a whole lot better. They don't even mind when you come home smelling like another truck. Most of all, they're a WHOLE LOT LESS EXPENSIVE!!

I just paid $800 for my old Crew Cab Dually and I didn't have to have ANYBODY'S approval. I didn't ask permission and I don't have to explain to anyone that all that rust is temporary. I'm going to take all my photos of my restoration and send them to my ex. Hahahahahahahahah. That'll show her!

Now days, I send my ex-wife a "thank you" card every anniversary. Honestly, without exaggeration, I have never been happier in my life.

I gotta good laugh at the STOP THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPED WITH A K&N FILTER! sticker on the fan shroud. But it only has a regular paper element filter installed. Guess the PO removed it before the sale to you. Lol

ROTFLMTO!! Seems I've struck a nerve with some builders.

I could keep adding to the list of reasons why not all women and project trucks mix but I'd worry about wrecking the thread too much. Maybe we should start a thread all of its own by guys who no longer have to have any woman's permission to keep a project truck going. It could be a great reference for those guys whose GFs and wives are giving them a lot of grief. Hmmm.... I may start one.

However, I used to have a friend whose wife loved him so much that she always bought some rare part for his Camaro project every anniversary, Christmas and birthday. Dang it she didn't have any sisters. Where in the world could I have found a girl like that?

Last I heard, she was still doing that and they've been married long enough to have grand-kids now.

So a little update, I bought this repop grille off eBay for $35.00 with free shipping, also replaced the ugly euro looking flat headlights with blue bulbs in them. Tomorrow I'm throwing away the leaky chrome valve covers for the originals, and replacing the leaking header gaskets with Remflex gaskets. I have new axle saddles from Summit, $11 and some change, some vinyl dye for the door panels, a tach dash, the correct bezel (someone modified an earlier one to fit), some Big 10 stickers for the bedsides, an HEI, and a few other misc things. I'm really liking this truck, I'll post updates as I go, I want this truck dialed by Aug.
