That's my front right doohickey:p Yeah, that's the stock cast exhaust manifold. It's painted, so it doesn't look normal...

I agree. That truck is beautiful. Don't change it. It would be a shame to modify a truck that is completely stock. There are so few left.

going with a crate doesnt mean u have to get rid of all the stock parts, just get the gm350 crate which is the supposably stock replacement and put your exhaust and all that on there after you paint it orange and your good to go for another long time

That's probably what I will do if I have to. I am hoping the rings just never seated the weak cylinder I have, and they might with some driving, but that's just being optomistic.
I will either go with the HP350 long block, or the HT383. Either way, I'll probably just paint it orange, and slip it in quietly.... |

Run it hot, that should seat them. Wonder if they actually put a crate motor in there. At one time they were having problems seating the rings... I had one that did that. After about a month of driving it went from needing a quart every 3 weeks to 1 every 2 days!

The person that bought it from the restorer trailered it around to shows for a while. My guess is if it really was "rebuilt" it may have just been re-ringed. If that is true, and it wasn't driven much, the rings might not have seated properly. The end result is it started running rough, so I had the plugs changed. The #7 plug was very oil fouled, and all the others were oil, and gas fouled. It ran great right after the plugs went in, so I'm hoping if I just drive it, the rings might seat. Yeah I know I'm |

You have a point. If it wasn't driven that is a possibility. I would just drive it till it is dead. If you can't do that, at least WAIT til the Blazer is driveable. Remember why you got this thing......

Oh yeah, that's the plan for sure. You know me though, I can't leave anything alone.
My focus right now is the interior. I plan to start tearing it out when I get back from Orlando. Once that is done, I can consider what gets done first on the outside... |

Chris,
I never say never, but I'm going to get as close as I can here. I plan to enjoy the 77 next spring. I am going to take it to some regional shows, and make the local cruise spots every chance I get. With that said, I will tell you I don not plan to get really crazy with this truck. As nice as it is, there are some small issues that I want to attend to. The idiot that owns the truck dropped a door panel and broke it. I patched it up, but it's not staying. I bought two replacements, and plan to re-dye them. While they are off, I want to convert to power windows, and locks. I may blow some sound deadening material in the doors at that time too. The factory radio sounds terrible, so I plan to address that problem. I'm thinking a hidden disc changer, with a small amp and some better speakers will do just fine. I also plan to put the tach dash in after I get it restored, and restore the faded seat belts. I think that's about it, but I'm sure there will be other minor details as I go.... |

Ok, I feel better now. A little revamping like you have been doing. I can live with that.
