Chalk Numbers on Firewall
My 68 has "502" written in chalk on the firewall and on the front of the front bed panel. Are these just production numbers? Anybody else have these on their truck? Just curious.

Re: Chalk Numbers on Firewall
If you are doing a 100 pt. restoration it would be good to keep them. But I only know of two (2) guys doing that...LOL! If you are making a hotrod or just making a nice driver...lose them.

Sounds like a Corvette site ..... Just kidding. These numbers are quite typicle on all types of vehicels. They were applied with a lumber crayon which rendered a waxy marking and appeared in green, white etc. They were production order #s that relate to internal paper work such as invoice or shipping #s. Corvettes had the same type of thing but painted over alot of these. Other Chevy & G.M. models were marked after the fire wall was painted so they are visable. Hope this helps a bit. esll.

Re: Chalk Numbers on Firewall
Mine's written inside the cab, on the wall behind where the gas tank was. I'll look to see if it matches the VIN.

Re: Chalk Numbers on Firewall
I'm not sure what mine are. The delivery date (or completion date) are on the inner fender.

Re: Chalk Numbers on Firewall
Looked at mine. "103" (in chalk it appears). It doesn't match the VIN. No other markings to give a clue what it might indicate. I left it, but it's under the FATMAT now.

Re: Chalk Numbers on Firewall
Most of the #'s (on the firewall anyway) were used on the Assembly line. As the truck was coming down the line the workers could glance at the #’s and see what options the truck was to get.
Like on mine the ce10934 was showed that it was a long fleet. I am not sure what the 4t on each end was for. The L47 showed a BB I think, and the M49 was for the auto trans. The J? had to do with the brakes maybe power brakes.
