Which heater control cables go where?

Non AC, I did some searching but just came up with the electric wiring part

3 cables all diff. lengths

Which ones go where? I had them where I think they were right but they were binding (oiled them good too?) And its not working but I forgot to ground the heater motor and check the fuse

Re: Which heater control cables go where?

I took my controls off and replaced them about 10 years ago and had the same problem so i got under the dash and turned on ther key then found all 3 control arms on the heater box, first i figured out which one turned on the fan, then i tryed the other two and figured out the one that routed the airflow from the heater floor to the defrost, then the last one is obviously the heat control. I lubed mine i think with Tri Flow, kinda pricy tho..

Re: Which heater control cables go where?

what is 'tri flow'?

I think i figured out where they go...Its just that they dont like to move, maybe the cables are a lil bent on the ends, oh well i'll freeze tomorow (cold front) then get it sorted out that evening maybe?

Re: Which heater control cables go where?

make sure the levers move on the heater box ok when unhooked, then that the new control levers move ok without the cables bent as per the routing, if they do then you need to lube the cables better.

Its a lubricant.. its at most auto parts or even Walmart or Meyers ect..

Re: Which heater control cables go where?

One of my cables was so frozen, the lever arm behind the control box was broken.

be careful when testing. Don't force it.

I will try the Tri flow have some thanks

Re: Which heater control cables go where?

Yea thats why i had to buy a new control assy, it was in dire need of lubrication and then i busted a lever trying to move it. Its been a long time so i can remember if i used a motorcucle cable lubing tool or not, but if ya have one it couldn't hurt, just be sure to put down a bunch of rags to catch the excess if ya do it in the truck LOL! I'd recomend removing it..

Thanks, They are pretty frozen and will be pulling all of them to lube.

Will probably need to replace that box as well. Reminded me of a frozen steering cable on my first boat.
