I'm probably way out in left field. But I'd check fusable links. Is there one down by the starter?
I'm just wondering if you blew a fuse somewhere? Darren

are you sure you are replacing an amp meter and not a volt meter?..if your putting a amp meter in place of a volt meter you will need much, much bigger wire.
