4 sp granny
I have 72 K5 350 granny 4 spd w/3.73 f/r diff. It could easily use a 5th gear.
Can granny be swapped with late model 5 sp? Any help appreciated. ...Dan ------------------ 72 K5 350 4 sp AC Pwr Stg MEM TN |

Fast is right about Advance Adapters. You can swap in an NV4500, package price about $3000. Let's see, 30% fuel gain from 12 to 16 mpg or a $5 savings everytime you fill up, it'll take 600 fill ups to pay for it, and that's IF the 5 speed doesn't break... If you fill up once a week it would pay for itself in 10 years or so, but the SM465 granny 4 speed is more durable and reliable since power is delivered straight through in top gear, not through the countershaft like an OD trans. Mine has 350k+ miles on it without an overhaul and only one clutch. Admittedly it needs seals...but I'd just put 33" tires on it and be done with it. I have 35" tires on mine with 4.11 gears and it gets 15 mpg at ~65 mph give or take at 2400 rpm. You should be about 5% below that with the 33's.
