MisterC's "Project Luigi" Thread

After wanting one for 35 years and owning 2 other classics that didn't satisfy me, she's finally mine!

It hasn't run in over 3 years, but it's been garaged virtually its entire life. She'll be my daily driver once I get it running and I couldn't be more proud.

Re: New '66 owner

I like your idea on the 67-72 sport bumper, that's the route I'm taking on my 66LWB fleet. I'ts much easier to make a hidden hitch with those, IMO.

Re: New '66 owner

Thanks for all of the kind words and welcomes from you all. As I mentioned, it's to be my daily driver eventually so I'm starting with mechanical stuff first. I'm not one to like crazy modifications so I'll go with what I call a resto custom.

First thing I did today was to convert the amber turn signals over to clear lenses with amber bulbs. It's a tiny move, but one that I feel makes the front end look cleaner.

I'll restore all of the custom trim. It has the Custom Cab panels and the fender emblems in a box. Actually, there were 3 boxes in the back that included many parts that the previous owner never got around to installing.

I'll upgrade to power steering, power brakes, disk brakes up front and dropped spindles and springs. If it ran right now, it would most likely ride like a tank. The previous owner cut 2 coils out of the front springs and installed el camino springs and air shocks in the back. I'm working on acquiring a full set of 15x8 steelies and the truck came 15x6's with dog dish caps and trim rings.

I'm also thinking about changing out the back bumper for a 67-72 sport bumper. I like that look with a hidden hitch, since I tow a boat and/or travel trailer.

That's all I can think of for now. Like all of you, I'm sure the list will grow with time. I'll do all of the work myself with the exception of paint and body. I know exactly zero about that stuff.

Re: New '66 owner

That is the greatest score. As is you are way ahead of most. No rotten floors, cab mounts, etc. A well optioned truck also. Just one thing caught my attention. Don't change the rear bumper. That one the General put on there looks right, and putting a different generation bumper on, is just wrong somehow. You have a very cool piece there.

Re: New '66 owner

Wow, MisterC.........

No wonder you're tickled about that thing.....She's a sweetheart.

More pic's......(from all of us "short-bussers)
I'm not quite as bright as you are....as far as recognizing my own limits is concerned.
I know a bit about body work.....enough to tackle about any job.
I just don't know enough about it to know when to hire it out.
I'm trying to wrap up a small project myself right now. So far it was a three to five hour engine swap that turned out to take more like three weeks.....'cause I just can't take those small steps.
Welcome to the group....Great folks hang here.

I live over by Mt. Whitney HS.

BTW, nice get together Saturday night. We stopped by for a while and enjoyed the music while looking at vehicles. Great turnout!
