New look Glove Box Lid

Stripped the paint on the front using a stripping disc, then hand sanded with Emery Cloth, sprayed the back in Black then clear coated the lot, bought a Chevrolet script, cut the posts off the back (didn't want holes drilled) and stuck it down using a couple of spots of clear silicone. I think it looks pretty good...even if I say so myself.

Go for it Seeker it's real easy, I had thought about spraying the middle black and leaving the outer edge bare metal, but glad I left it like this.

Thanks Jeff, I see what you mean, but that is still a very original idea.

Thanks FLD, Silver will work with most colors, the good thing with glove box lids is you can pick spare ones up easily, modify them and if it doesn't look right just pull it and put your original back on.

Nigel,

maybe make a matching dash w/ gauges out of a glove box door (there's an FAQ)....I think that would look cool w/ your black truck interior

Your right Geoff, I have another lid I could experiment with, time to put my thinking cap on as I would want it with the dials recessed like the original.

Re: New look Glove Box Lid

Nice custom touch! I've thought about a script like that molded in and painted. Maybe cut a valve cover and graft it into the lid.

It's still attached to the other lid Geoff, it's a repro from Classic Parts, I won't use it again.

Not an easy project SK, but would look pretty cool on the V Cover.

That looks sharp man, good job. I was wondering, do you think you'll have to coat it with anything to avoid rust spots starting?

What clear coat did you use? I've heard some people say that clearing bare metal can discolor and leave a yellowish brown color.
