Any Dash Ideas

So with everyone kringing at the sound of the word "economy" these days, I assume theres alot of broke die hards out there. Trying to keep the ball rolling on the Ye Olde GMC, with no money to spend, I took out the dash, completely separated from the cab. Didnt cost anything to do that. It isnt the right one for it anyhow, so wasnt like sacralige to me. Its a 64-66 chevy dash, and i dont like it. Any of you guys got some "thinking outside the box" dash pics, or even really cool factory dashes? Im still able to be persuaded at this point. Found some really cool Bomber Aircraft style guages in one of the mose recent Hot Rod Deluxe mags. Check them out here. http://www.classicinstruments.com/se...?SeriesCode=MA Move mouse pointer over guage description on the left of the page. Kind of confusing, was for me anyways, but thats another topic for another day...
This is what Id like to put in. Let me know what yall think.

I went to Home Depot and got a kick panel for a door. The one I got has a nickle finish. It was only a few dollars.

Re: Any Dash Ideas

...that's pretty damn cool, Joey!

Wolfinthesnow, it sounds like you removed the entire dash from the cab? I have an entire 60-63 Chevy dash if you're looking to modify something, or looking for the older style dashes. I had cut out and drilled all of the spot welds to remove it from a cab at a wrecking yard many years ago. It's just sitting in my shop untouched. Just another idea.

Re: Any Dash Ideas

In keeping with my low budget build El Cheepo, I used masonite , thats the hard pressedwood used for pegboards, minus the holes. I was going to use it as a template and insted covered it with some "chrome" sign decal.
real easy real cheep .This is how it came out

Well I always said I wouldn't change mine from stock, but gotta admit, those are sweet. Did you have to polish the nickel? Where did you get the gauges?

Also, what does the Keystone Light motor redline at?

The nickle kick panel was bought as is. I put maskin tape on it, so I wouldnt scratch the finish, while doin all the cuttin.

Got the guages at O'Rielly's. They are Eiquus (sp?).

Hole saws.

I had to use a dremel to make em fit perfect.

I made a dash out of an old glove box door. I dont have pics in the computer right now. I used hole saws also. And as Joey AP stated, you need to route 'em out to fit nice and tite. At the time I mentioned that Autometer could make a killing if they came out with a set of holesaws to fit their guages!! I dont know where they come up with the diameters for those things.

C'mon PT, you gotta post a pic of that dash. I remember when you posted some pics of how you were gonna set it up but I just now realized that you never showed us the finished product.

The other dashes you guys have posted look nice. Clean install jobs.

Re: Any Dash Ideas

After I removed the dash, I unbolted the ring from the cluster panel.

I used the cluster panel for a template.

There are like 6 screws and a couple dow pin type hootuses on it.
