Original paint scheme
How can I tell if this is the original paint scheme of my truck? I think it has been repainted and I'm not sure if this how it looked from the factory.

Re: Original paint scheme
Can you post a pic of the SPID on the glovebox door? It should have the paint scheme code on it. Beautiful truck by the way

Welcome from Florida! Real nice looking truck. Like they said, check the spid for the paint code.

Re: Original paint scheme
Wouldn't it say White/Ochre/White since below the lower molding is white? I could be wrong but that was my understanding. It could be that someone added the white under the lower trim when they repainted a few years ago.

Re: Original paint scheme
Never thought of that, that's a possibility too.

Re: Original paint scheme
So should it have the upper mouldings as well? What exactly does D99 mean.

The lower body side molding option is included with Z84. The upper trim is not part of Z84. If this truck had been built with the upper belt molding it would be on the SPID as RPO B85. So your truck as indicated on the SPID, will have a white roof, D99 divider trim along the back of the cab, Ochre body paint and lower body side moldings. Not wanting to again go too far into this, the RPO D99 code is for the two-tone cab roof paint divider molding. It normally is not seen on SPIDs in the US (nor needed for service) but is on Canadian SPIDs. Normally it will only be seen on build sheets and basically notes the build needs the divider molding clip studs welded to the cab.

Re: Original paint scheme
The truck is a conventional Two-Tone per the paint code 536 which is a reliable indicator vs the plant erratic descriptions. So as it correctly states it was built white over ochre. If the white lower paint were factory the code would be 590.
The VIN decodes as: C - Conventional Cab 4x2 E - V-8 engine 1 - 1/2 ton 34 - Wideside bed - - Blank 1 - Oshawa assembly plant 1 - 1971 249XX - Serial number Also if any you are following my RPO D99 posts, this is a clear example of the Canadian exception actually posting the code on the SPID. US built trucks generally only show the code on the build sheet.
