Traded Trucks To Fast

I traded my 72 for a 68 today. I was SOOOO excited I found the 68 with buddy buckets, a 6 cylinder, and a decent body that I did't look it over good enough. I got it home and started looking at it closely and noticed the frame is rusted near the trans crossmember. I might have to trade the buckets for a decent frame. I know you all like pics so here's a few:

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

Frames, especially LWB frames, aren't that expensive!

You can work on your "new frame" while you drive the truck! AND You can pick up a 71/72 frame to get 5 lugs and front disc brakes!!!!

I wouldn't trade those seats for a frame!

You must have been so excited you were speeding on your way home, I see you got caught!

I appreciate that! If I haven't found one by time I head back out that way (in a few years) and you still have it I'll pick it up.

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

if thats the only rotted place on the frame it seems it would be alot easier to repair than replace unless you're planning a full body off deal

Anyone who is a non subscribed member... unless you intend on GIVING the frame away, then you can not try to sell your stuff here.
This thread was not intended to source parts, he was just commenting on how he was bummed out.
If he was askin for a frame, he would have posted it in the parts forum.
If your name is pink, you need to offer it for free, or not at all.

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

If the last pic is the spot that is rusted, dont look like it would be a bad fix. Also i thought i would comment on the block under the tire, kinda makes me laugh cuz it looks just like mine in the driveway. I would hate to wake up to the beast blocking the road, and im sure the neighbors wouldnt like it much either. Anyway looks like a nice trade.

Now that is funny. The first 70 I bought...I was at the insurance company getting the insurance on it and a guy came in and asked who had the blue Chevy truck I said I did....and he told me it was in the middle of the road blocking traffic.
It was a 3 on the tree and 307...I had left it in first gear when i parked it on a hill. I was 17 at the time.

Frames are a dime a dozen. Those buckets aren't, you need to keep them. Sorry you're not closer I would just give you a frame. Anyone that tries to sweet talk you out of your buckets for a frame isnt being a very good "truck brother".

that's a good idea. i had a small 4 speed car that had a slipping clutch, and it would spip while parked in the driveway.

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

Scott,
there have been a few 71-72 lwb frames on the Kansas City CL lately for under $200. you surely could get double that for the seats, so save them. they are original to the truck and you'll only kick yourself when they are gone!!!

by the way, nice Charger!

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

Bring it to K.C. We can weld that up from a donor frame..Piece of cake, Or 6 pack your choice...oh and frames are free around here !!! Just takes a little looking. let me Know, and you can keep the seats, unless.......

No really, I can hook you up with a frame, I have passed trucks up with cabs and beds on them for a 100.00 in the last few months, I bought a 72 Suburban for 150.00, a 70 1 Ton dually for a 100.00, and am buying a 69 panel for 150.00 next week, I can get you a frame for 50.00 or free maybe, seriously.

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

I love the squad car behind it! Maybe we could get a pic sometime of you behind my truck with the car and lights...LOL! That would be sweet! Love the rims! Not a bad truck by any means but quite a bit of work needing to be done. More pics are in order... And thank you again, looks like my engine will be back from the machinist in time to go in this weekend. Love having friends! You are the greatest!

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

First off, congrats on the new truck!

Scott... I think you traded up but that's just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I have to agree w/ CG and Doug, keep those buckets, as frames are a dime a dozen. They are original to the truck and you would kick yourself the minute they left.

And you know I have a soft spot in my heart for an inline.

Hey if you take Bob68327 up on his offer we can ride up that way together..... just a thought.

Not really rare, but a little hard to find, since more trucks came with the bench seat, and the ones that people are selling are usually thrashed and need a rebuild. BTW, nice score, sjarrett-

Re: Traded Trucks To Fast

Two questions,

1. approx hp and torque of the charger behind the truck?
2. does the truck need a new engine?...

I think you know where im going with this . "I dont know Sarge, the engine was gone when i got up to go to work!"
