Rolled
Today was a bad day! A tire blew on me and I lost controll and rolled my 70 LWB. Luckily I had the lap belt on at the time, and escaped with only some bruised knuckles and a sore shoulder. As for the truck, the cab roof is flattened out, but the doors, bed, front clip and frame are still straight (as they were before). The front window is trash, but the back window actually poped out and landed in the bed in one piece! I'm still a little shaken. I hope to have her back in service soon though. I am thinking I'll probably have to do a cab swap. I'll see if I can post some pics later.

Re: Rolled
definitely the last thing you want to hear someone doing to their truck (short of having it crushed!)
sorry about your luck, but glad you're ok. look on the bright-side: Cab-off restore just became very easy for you! don't forget to save your glove box door and VIN plates.

Re: Rolled
So sorry to hear about your bad luck, glad you are OK. How fast were you going ? What kind of tire was that ??? Front or rear ??? Low pressure or old tire ? Just in case that info might help prevent someone having problems. Wish you good luck getting it fixed.

Re: Rolled
OK, as promised, here are some pictures. These first two are maybe 20 minutes after. I just happen (as I almost always do) to have my camera with me
Really, the most damage was under the hood. 1 mount was already bad, plus they appear to have been the original mounts (they look like two metal "palms" with a slab of rubber between them). So, that didn't help either: broke the LH manifold, fan ate a nice gash into the radiator, shift linkage popped off at the tranny. here is a few pics after I got it somewhere I could work on it: The only glass that isn't reusable is the windshiled. The driver's side door has an area at the back just above the lock where it has crushed in, so I doubt that door is repairable. The other door looks very fixable and very reusable. Here is the chaos in the engine compartment:

If you do this just make sure you install a roll cage... or if you rolled it again you could lose your noggin. Glad you made it out just a little scraped, and glad the truck made it out pretty well too.

Re: Rolled
that sucks majorly! hope you get your truck goin straight and fine as the day it rolled off the factory (no pun inteded) and I'm glad you're okay! Reminds me of a truck we have up here in the impound lot... it's a nice lookin 69-72 4x4 longbox, almost everything on that truck is straight and fine... except that the entire cab has been FLATTENED almost level with the top of the box, no joke. I have almost never seen a vehicle flattened that bad, especially not a 67-72, with their greatly designed crash abilities (and trust me, my brother works in a Wrecking company, with Salvage Yard attached, and I've seen lots of vehicles with all ranges of damage to them, in about every kind of accident you can imagine) But I'm glad that the truck isn't totalled, wrecked too badly, and that you aren't either! And good look with getting that truck back on the road!

Re: Rolled
you should write a FAQ thread on how to do a 'chopped top' in 10 seconds.... did it roll back on the wheels, or land on the roof?
im glad you walked away with no damage. and can make jokes about it now... |

Re: Rolled
Glad that you walked away from that one. Pretty amazing how little is hurt on the truck! Thank goodness for heavy gauge steel, they certainly don't build them like that anymore. Sucks to loose the daily driver for a while, but definately gives you a great excuse to do some restoration work, and make any upgrades you've been considering.

Re: Rolled
Glad you're ok. You can probably thank that tough ol' gal though. It's not the first time I've seen a roll-over on here that nobody got seriously hurt. These trucks are tougher than hell. Once again, glad you're ok and have fun with the rebuild.
I can't believe that exhaust manifold
