four speed?
just sort of thinking about a winter project for now.
how many of you guys have made the swap from an automatic to a standard tranny, specifically a muncie M-21 or M-22? did you need the high-hump tranny tunnel, or did it fit with the low hump? where did you purchase your transmission? ballpark, how much did it cost to make the swap? what shifter did you use (I've herd that a shifter for a 55 chevy with a bench seat works, but I can't actually remember.)

Re: four speed?
I've made the swap in cars. Pretty straight forward. It will fit in any spot that the 3 speed will fit, might even use the same driveshaft, depending on the transmission.

Re: four speed?
The low hump did not work for my application. Bagged w/ post 73 front crossmember. An ear of the tranny was hitting the tunnel, not by much. I made my own. I used a hurst indy shifter with a short stick, it is perfect with bucket seats. With a bench seat you would need a longer shifter w/ a bend. Also I believe there are two different mounting brackets for the Hurst shifter. One that mounts it up high, which brings it way over the tunnel and one that mounts it to the side of the tranny. I have a friend that has a 56 chevy with the low one mine has the high one so I made a console. You can get both brackets and shift sticks through summit. In the picture the top of the boot is at the top of the shifter. Its a muncie 21.

Re: four speed?
I used high hump, but aMuncie m20 21 22 may fit okay under the low hump. Got my transmissions from muscle cars from the past . Saved them all these years switching from one hot rod to another. One of the members from Arizona had posted all you needed to install everything for around 1500 dollars. may have been 72 RS SS. not sure now. Not to bad of a price for a package deal. The parts I have have been aropund for a lot of years so not real sure what it would cost from scratch. But 1500 is a good price imo. But that is used parts. Good luck .Larry

Re: four speed?
I didnt say before but I looked around before I bought this m-21 from a friend for 500.00 w/ no bellhousing. They seem to be going for around 500-700 dollars depending on if they come with a shifter or not. Then of course you'd need flywheel, pressure plate ,clutch, bellhousing, pedals.

Re: four speed?
The car 4-speeds will fit under the low-hump.I have slipped them in and even used the same hole that was cut in the floor for a 3spd floor shifter, like the "Indy" shifter. There is a Hurst shifter made for these trucks that will clear the bench seat.
