Passenger car brakes on 66 c20?
Hey truck gurus,
New to the board. Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can bestow. Got ahold of a 66 c20 project that runs and drives but doesn't stop so well. My car club buddy has a 69 el camino with fresh disc brake conversion. The camino took a rear end impact and he's decided to part out. I'm wondering how involved it would be to swap the el camino brakes into my truck, assuming it's even possible. Truck is still 8 lug manual drums all around, although the master cylinder has been upgraded to 68 dual circuit. El Camino is standard passenger car five lug, power disc/drum. Anybody done this kind of swap before? Feasible or wishful thinking? Cheers. |

Just get the brakes from a '71-'87 C-20 or C-30. Direct swap with correct bolt pattern and will be the big truck rotor instead of what is probably a little 10.5" setup on the El Camino.

Hey thanks but I'm hoping to use the free parts that are available to me. Just wondering if they will interchange.

A good brake job on those drums will stop better than a car disk. How many Semis ran drums till this year? That goes for Air suspension and brake systems as well. In reality there is more "pad" and surface on a drum.

Appreciate the suggestions guys, but that's not the information I need.
Anybody know if the discs will interchange? |

Re: Passenger car brakes on 66 c20?
I do not know of any way to install El Camino brakes onto a C20 front spindle or differential. Those are two totally different vehicles. You would have to change the spindles (don't have a clue what ball joints you would use) and you would have to use the complete differential from the El Camino. Changing the differential is doable but I think the front suspension and steering would turn into a cluster.

Thanks Captainfab. Figured that would probably be the case, but thought I'd ask the experts on the off chance the hubs were similar enough.
