New tires and wheels!

I don't know if we are going to be able to trim enough off the fenders to make this work. We might have to go with a bit more suspension lift. The tires are 37x13.00 Boggers on 16x10 wheels.

Re: New tires and wheels!

Looks good like it is. I'd just give it a little trim with the sawzall. You'd like it better without an even higher center of gravity with addtional lift.

Cut along the red lines. If the body was in perfect shape I'd agree with more lift to avoid cutting, but something tells me this truck is going to be used. I trimmed the snaggle teeth off of the front fenders of mine and it took all of 10 minutes with Mr. Sawzall. It got loud as the fender has 3 layers nearest the core support, but fresh blades cut right through it. I just eyeballed my cut to be just below the core support by 3/4". Any more and I would have been cutting into the core support. I gained pleanty of clearance to the front when a wheel is stuffed and turning.

CUT IT!!!

Re: New tires and wheels!

Odds are the front will get cut right along those lines but we're trying to avoid cutting the back. Right now the Blazer has a 2" body lift and a 2.5" suspension lift (all springs, no blocks). We're thinking a ORD shackle flip for the rear and new 4" springs for the front. We're just afraid that if all we do is cut the fenders, the lugs will still grab hold of some part of the truck when things get in a bind. And believe it or not its probably going to get some paint shot on it soon. She needs rockers and a door but aside from that she's remarkably solid and straight. And yes it gets used!

These pics are with the old 33" Ground Hawgs.

Re: New tires and wheels!

I don't think you can go wrong with the 4" lift and the shackle flip. Ride will improve and the body to tire clearance will improve too. Although with the 2.5" spring out back combined with the shackle flip, you might get a little more than 4" out of it. See DirtyLarry's thread in the 4x4 section on his ORD flip kit install. He had re-arched stock springs and an add a leaf that made the rear sit higher than the front after the flip was installed. He had to take the add a leaf out.

Cutting can be done and still look ok. You can always go back and reinforce the cut sheetmetal by welding in 1/4" round bar to the edge where it was cut. the round bar won't be as easy to catch as the cut sheetmetal.

I've got a couple of pics from CK5 that maps out the cutting of the fenders/quarters for use with large tires. They are too big to post here, but if you want them I can email them to you.

Re: New tires and wheels!

Broke out the Sawzall and trimmed up the front enough to drive it. Would probably be fine now if it was a pavement queen. I guess its going to have to be parked until we get some parts to get her on her tip toes!
