Anything worth keeping on a 71 350?
Well, the new motor is about to go in, and I'm just about done stripping all the necessary pieces off the old block before it goes to the scrapyard. #1 con rod brutalized the front of the pan (as well as some of the lower block from what I can see through the hole) before self-ejecting, so I'm pretty sure the piston siezed and the block is worthless. The damage was due to a lack of oil, but it was still running when I shut it down.
The stock heads are still intact and fine - are they worth keeping? The stock intake is also intact, but one of the t-stat housing bolts siezed and broke off - is it worth the effort? Stock 71 valve covers? Anything else I should save? Thanks, Eric |

Re: Anything worth keeping on a 71 350?
Pics would help. But I would save the heads if they are still good. Nice to have an extra set around or you could trade or sell them or use them as cores. I wouldnt really bother with the intake. As for the valve covers, if they have a rubber plug for the oil filler than keep them. If it is the metal screw on filler plug chunk em. Just my thoughts.

If the intake is a 4bbl I would keep it. It would be a non EGR and the bolt can be removed. I would also keep the heads, they will have the big chambers but they will also be the heavy castings that are not as prone to crack.

Re: Anything worth keeping on a 71 350?
If it's a 4 bolt main, look at the main caps. If they have an "N"(Nodular) on them, keep them. Stronger and I had two different people ask me to trade for standard caps when I had my 71 350 rebuilt. I would junk the intake and heads...I see them at every swap meet for not much.
