64 rear axle bearing

Hello all, 2 questions. on my rear axle bearing it has a washer behind it which repair manual calls it a bearing retainer and says to replace when replacing the bearing, but can't find them anywhere, any advice. Next, one bearing i was able to pull it out with my hand the other had to use bearing puller, anyone got a clue on that. tks for any help.

Re: 64 rear axle bearing

Are you working on a 12 bolt or a Dana 44?

Re: 64 rear axle bearing

The 64 12 bolt uses a somewhat special wheel bearing as I remember. The 12 bolt truck bearing that was sent with my rear end "kit" was not correct for that year. I would have to be in Texas to get that info though.

Re: 64 rear axle bearing

The axle bearings are supposed to be a tight fit into the ends of the axle tubes.

Re: 64 rear axle bearing

On a 700R4 it is not a kick down cable. It is the TV cable and if it is not connected and adjusted correctly, you will burn up the trans in a short time. Have you checked with Bowtie Overdrives for the bracket? I'm not sure if anyone makes a bracket and the necessary geometry components for a I6 with a 1Bbl. If BO does not have what you need you will have to fabricate all the components yourself.

Re: 64 rear axle bearing

the 63 and 64 outer rear wheel bearing are different to the other year 12 bolt bearings-they have the press on backing plates and different size bearing

Re: 64 rear axle bearing

its 63 and early 64 12bolt axles with 17 spline-the later design with 30spline axles are all the same
