Found a 54...
Well that 1951 a looked at was a dud owner lied about having title in his name and ond wasnt worth the price of scrap, completely rusted out.... But i hopped on this 1954 i found gonna pick it up sat. Its a 1954, 2 owner truck, has 350/350, mustang front end, also has the side mount spare tire. Had some surface rust but not too much considering its a cheap 10 year old paint job, everything seems pretty solid, also has the original plates.

Re: Found a 54...
That looks like a great truck for a project! It also sounds like a lot has been done even AC.

Re: Found a 54...
WOW that is some scary stuff. What are your plans to fix the front end? The trans mount should be an easy fix at least.

Re: Found a 54...
thanks, i can say enough about gsp's they are great dogs. I was tossing the idea of an s10 swap around, but it looks like he didn't butcher the frame so I'm gonna start shopping around for a mustang II kit. Im gonna try getting the motor and trans out this weekend, then onto interior removal so i can start bodywork.

Re: Found a 54...
even though you have a few issues to fix but still looks like a great project. Are all the panels as straight and solid as they look in the pics? I'm getting ready to change to an automatic trans in my 65, after seeing your pics I have a new idea for my trans mount

Re: Found a 54...
there are few bad spots on the tailgate and passenger bedside. Also the apron piece that you can see missing was rotted. rest of body is as straight and solid as it looks in pictures, unless its well hidden. I havnet pulled seats yet so I'm hoping the floor is good under there too. underside all looks solid. as of now i think the only replacement pieces i will need are inner fenders and the apron.

Re: Found a 54...
As soon as i got the truck i got swamped at work been working 10-12 days 7 days a week since i got it...I got the interior completely stripped. Both cab corners are gonna have to get replaced, gonna have to do something about the toeboard and trans tunned part of firewall. PO riveted metal into these areas. Also found where he decided to cut speaker holes with a cutting torch... Good news is once i do get some time ill have some extra cash... going to order a danforth crossmember pretty soon. And i know
Also i believe i foudn the original color of paint covered in years worth of grime... Last edited by lpguy; 10-11-2010 at 06:55 AM. |

Re: Found a 54...
What MII frontend are you going to use? If I ever use one it's going to be a Fatman some of them don't use heavy enough metal for my taste. I can't find much wrong with a GM clip the price makes them look the best for me. I know it's just my opinion, and everybody has one. Keep us posted on your build!! Lookin Good!!

Re: Found a 54...
Im not sure if you know which one im talking bout but heres some info for anyone else just in case they havnt seen it.. only for ad trucks.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=317178 Around 500 for crossmember before shipping, then however much you want to spend on s10 suspension parts from stock at pick n pull yards or aftermarket tubular stuff. Heres some pics not mine Last edited by lpguy; 10-10-2010 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: Found a 54...
That will be a SWEEEEET set up when you get it done. I like the fact that it is 2 inches narrower than my Nova! There wasn't anything like that on the market when I did my Nova sub.

Re: Found a 54...
Well i redrilled the shock mounts for the 3.75" ubolts today and got the new axle mounted..I have a question for anyone else using an explorer rear end though... Has anyone retained the third shock in a swap? Any benefits from it?
