shoulder seat belts on a 70?
I'm looking to put in some shoulder belts to replace the stock lap belts. I am wondering if it's as simple as just popping out the little cap and bolting it in.
Also, I see that Yearone has a universal 3 point non retractable belt that actually comes in orange (great to match my truck) and also that yearone also sells a pair of seat belt retractors for about $45. Can you combine the non-retractable belts with a retractor to make them retractable belts? If not I doubt I will order from yearone, as classic parts has a retractable set-up for around $90.00. I can't seem to find if they sell em in pairs or singles though. Has anyone ordered from classic parts before? if so what was your experience.? Thanks for any help. |

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
I have had good luck with classic parts. I wouldn't call lap belts stock. The 70 came out without belts. I think it was 73 before PUs had belts.

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
I have the Classic Parts belts with the aircraft buckle. Latch side is a hair short if you need to move the seat up. I had to hit the mounting holes with a dremel to use the factory bolts in the floor. They are a little touchy when you go to put them on. Over all I'm happy with them. but there might be better options. They are sold singly. Sorry about the novel.

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
Lap belts were stock in 70'. I think the only option on them was whether someone wanted a center lap belt. It wasn't until 75 or 76' where it was mandatory for shoulder belts. You could get shoulder belts as an accessory in 71-72 and was a factory option 67-70.

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
i know in Missouri, any PU before 72 is exempt from seatbelt laws. I asked the Highway Patrol when I bought my 70. I had to drill holes to install mine. Cars were required to have seatbelts in 1968, PUs in 1972.

The answer to this question is yes, I've done it on two trucks now and it works fine.

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
Even the 1967 trucks were made with a reinforcing plate threaded for a shoulder belt installed in the "B" pillar. You will need a grade 8 fine thread stepped bolt for that location so the shoulder belt can rotate freely. Got mine from Juliano's Hot Rod Shop.

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
Here is a pic (not very good) of the best fitting belts I have found. The retractors are compact and clear everything easily. They mount using the stock holes and come with all hardware for our trucks. You drill one hole if using stock tank...none with rear tank.
You can PM me for more details, if interested. Frank |

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
They are the ones that I sell. After trying several styles, these are the best I have found for our trucks. I include instructions for installation in our trucks and some unique hardware.

No catalog = discount Warehouse operations = discount I try to keep overhead and pricing to a minimum. I sell these improved belt sets, with hardware and instructions (2 persons) for $160 + $10 s/h. An additional matching center belt is available for an additional $25. I use the soft belts for both bench & bucket seats. The hard belts for buckets never mount or sit right. I have black in stock and colors special order (red, lt saddle, drk blue, burgandy, silver, and grey.) PM me for ordering payment instructions. Thanks, Frank |

Re: shoulder seat belts on a 70?
I got mine from fleabay. They're "Autolocs" I think that's the name. Easy install. Just have to drill one hole for the bottom mount, use grade 8 bolts, and reinforce the floor in that area. I just used a flat piece of steel.
Been using mine since 2006. I got both sides plus the center for around $100. Before this, I used the 3 points out of a 76-ish Chevy truck. Those were in the truck a long time, from around '97 to 2006. The buckles are a little short for "our" trucks. My fix was these buckle extenders, however, I never installed them I'm putting in buckets so my "issue" will be resolved when I install the buckets.
