Stripped bolt help!
I'm in the process of cleaning up the motor, and found that the long bolt that holds the alternator in has a stripped head....
whats the best way of getting it out?? i thought about just drilling a small slit and trying to use a large flat head screwdriver to get it out. whats the best option for me? |

Vice grips, or you could weld a nut to the bolt.

Re: Stripped bolt help!
cut the head off with a hack saw or a cutoff wheel. slide the alternator out of the way , and put a set of vise grips on the bolt. IF the bolt is not bottomed in the head you should be able to unscrew the bolt.

Re: Stripped bolt help!
i usually grind two flat spots on either side of a damaged bolt head, then just use either a crescent wrench or a vice grip ad winch it off.

Re: Stripped bolt help!
It expanded nicely and was stuck around the alternator itself, i just ended up using a cut off wheel and cutting it right past the alternator.
Thanks for the help! |
