1969 GMC has no Park position on trans

1969 GMC 1 ton truck has no park position on the transmission gear indicator, and the column will not allow me to shift up past reverse where park should be.

I think older GM Hydramatic transmissions did not have a park position, but would this be true for a 1969 model?

I have a 1969 Chevy one ton Caveman motor home and I was told that park was omitted from the shifter because of the parking pin was not strong enough to hold the weight of the vehicle in some circumstances. G.M. wanted you to use the parking brake and a block to keep the vehicle in place.

I have seen Turbo 400's (actually called AT-475's) in C-50's that did not have a park position. 67Oldstyle72 is right, over a certain GVW park was omitted because it would not hold the vehicle.

Wow, that's pretty crazy (about missing parking gear). As for me, no matter what the car, I put it into neutral and use the foot brake to hold it until I put in just enough parking brake to hold it, then I shift into park and turn off the engine.

So, you have a one ton. That's what GM did on those. It's the same transmission, you can put the pawl in there and have park. Then you'd need the indicator with P also
