73 454, pickup engine info please
Anyone out there up on details of 73 454s in pickups? What were the horsepower options, comp ratios, head castings, block castings, etc. any info helpful, starting to look in wrecking yards for BB chevys to start a build up on, and would like to pick a good one, super high performance not neccesary, but very good would be nice, I would like to stay with oval port, thats what I am running now. Just asking about 73 because I spotted one in a camper special, door jamb said early 73, had a 454 badge in grill, didnt see much else, thanks

Not sure if it's the same as the 454 I had in my 76 CC dually but I can tell you that mine runs STRONG!!!!! I put that big dually sideways on a 15MPH roll just by punchin' it and it smoked the tires all the way into 3rd.... LOT'S of power. My motor only had a mild rebuild on it(not punched out either) with an RV grind cam.

thanks guys, I dont need one yet, but some day will need a new motor for my 68. Maybe I will take a closer look, and find out more about it. 245 doesnt seem like much hp, torq sounds good, but if a guy was going to redo it anyway, 100 more hp is do-able right?

Velt, real easy. My 454 is a stock bottom end with a real mild cam, Performer intake, 770 Holley, & shorty headers.
Desktop Dyno says 351HP @ 5000 RPMs & 372 ft. lbs @ 4500 RPMs. Id say thats pretty realistic .
