Question Can Header Bolts be too tight???

I have a set of Dynomax ceramic coated header that have been on since September. I have the typical problem of bolts loosening up over time and I have to tighten them back due to small leaks.

A couple days ago I tightened my bolts down due to a small leak and for some reason I still have a leak on the driver's side.

Is it possible to tighten these bolts too much and warp the flange? As I said, the headers are fairly new and I've only retightened them twice. I installed the gaskets that came with the headers (FelPro) and did NOT use locking bolts. At the time I bought my exhaust system, I didn't have the extra $40.

Thanks in advance...

Well, I don't think I'm cranking them that hard! Heck, three of the bolts I can only get a wrench on so I can't tighten them too much. I'm just thinking it's hard to warp these headers that much when all the bolts are snug to start with and I just tighten them from there.

I really need to get some better gaskets and locking bolts (as Phoenix mentioned in another thread).

Yep that happened to the guy who owned the truck before me. But he just left it instead of getting it fixed. Its fixed now though.

Stage 8 header bolts work for sure. With my aluminum heads the bolts would work loose. Not anymore.

I have aluminum heads and have never had a header bolt loosen up. What are you guys doing wrong?
