Youngin' With a Million ideas::Ratrod style

Hey guys, have a 67 3/4 ton gmc. Im a huge fan of old school (and new school) rat rods. Im wondering if anyone has ever done a truck with no fenders (or hood) like the old school 30's do. Just a crazy idea I had and figured itll either look really cool or just horrible. Any imput woult be awesome. Thanx for the knowledge and info on here!

That's not a look you could pull off with anything newer than a 40's, if even that.

I had a '68 VW rat rod that had no front fenders, it was sort of cool.

Re: Youngin' With a Million ideas::Ratrod style

I was thinking about that my self. I was going to make a rad holder, headlight bucket holders, flatbed, and smooth out the front of the cab. Of course this would only be a show truck, not a driver.
I've been drivin my '69 around the neighborhood without the bed and the frontclip. Man! with out all of that weight the inline six kicks butt!

Re: Youngin' With a Million ideas::Ratrod style

Looking at that site, he had a wallpaper of what looks like a 64ish that was sweet.

I guess it might look cool, but I'm too practical for that. If I have no place to put my bike, then having a truck is pointless. I'd just buy a car.

i thought you cant have exposed wheels.... there is a reason why semis have to have mud flaps

Last I heard in TN you had to have bumpers, something over the wheels, a windshield and lights to be legal, but it may vary from state to state.

Re: Youngin' With a Million ideas::Ratrod style

The laws around here (from what i can find) only clarify for wheels sticking horizontally out too much. I understand that it wouldnt be safe, just an idea. Trying to work some practicallities (sp?) in there somewhere. I love the look of that project. It wont be a daily driver thats for sure

Re: Youngin' With a Million ideas::Ratrod style

I know around here it depends on the officer. If you're rolling a '32 T Bucket with no fenders, the cops may not stop you. But I would say if you were rolling something like the mini chopper, you wouldn't make it 10 feet without a stack if tickets.

In Oregon, if your truck is lifted (so the wheel isn't in the well) you have to have a mud flap that goes down past the hub so no more than 50% of your tire is exposed.

Re: Youngin' With a Million ideas::Ratrod style

they could build a radiator under the cab for that ......

you might look intoo the specially build rockcrawlers they adapt the original bodywork kindah bending in the bed and fenders so there comming in starting from the cab towarth the front 'bout 10 inches per side to a narrowed grille and reardoor exposing the wheels if you look at it from the top it allmost looks like a boat with wheels on it .
it will cover the engine and suspension and i think it will give the look youre after without reving the cops off .

Around here a truck with no fenders and no hood and being drove is either a log truck or a hay hauler.
