tranny fluid level
I know they say not to overfill. I got mine like at the most a 1/4 inch over the full line should I be concerned with this or is it close enuf?

Really I did not think that little bit over would do any harm? Anyway I have only drove it twice since filter change and would swear after the first time driving it it was good will check it a few more times before I do anything.

take a cooling line out of the radiator for a little bit. that should drain enough and you should check it after driving it so the transmission cycles the fluid.

you won't feel anything.
What happens, the fluid will get areated.... foamy, and the bubbles will be on the clutch packs instead opf the oil.... and that'll cause exsesive wear. We aren't talking it'll crap out next week, but it WILL shorten the life of the tranny. |

I see, I have a hand pump thingy so I think I can pump it out of the dipstick easy enuf. How much do you think a 1/4 inch on the dipstick is? Half a pint?
Also when I check it I have driven for about 15 minutes from work should I cycle thru the gears when I get home right before I check it?

yes...always.

Hey longhorn man thanks for your help came home today went thru the gears then checked it, right below the full line. One question the bolts on the tranny pan do I need to go back and recheck them in a few days or if it dont leak dont touch it? Also I was checking it close for leaks nothing so far but I noticed in some places the gasket is getting a little wet, is this the sign of a leak starting or is it normal for some fluid to wick thru the gasket and keep it damp around the pan? kind of like my oil pan never drips but is always damp.

I would recheck them, but you're probably OK.
i have found that they are more likely to leak from over tightening rather than too loose. I would monitor the damp points for a while and deal with it if need be. |
