1983 Chevy S10 Coil

I inherited 83 S10 from my brother in law. I noticed the ignition coil is mounted next to intake manifold. I always thought that General Motors had the coil installed on top of the distibutor cap. I was wondering if this the setup they used for the 83 S10?

Thanks
John

Re: 1983 Chevy S10 Coil

Is it a factory coil or is it an aftermarket setup? Some aftermarket units had a feed to the old HEI distributors and the coil was outside the dizzy. I had an 83 S-15, but I can't remember where the coil was on that POS. I am glad it is in Crappy Hell. That thing deserved to be NEVER built.

Piecesparts, thanks for your reply, I helped my brother in law put this truck back on the road. Rebuild the engine, door hinges, heater core, headlinner, repaint, etc. Thanks John.
