Booster ???

How do I tell if this is for disc, drum, disc/drum, ect? Which one of the rods is the correct one to go with this booster? By the way I am going to sell this, I know someone is thinking that, but I need to have all the info before I try.
Thanks.

Looks like the top rod in the first pic is the one that goes with power brakes. Without seeing a proportioning valve I would assume that its drum drum.

My truck has manual disc/drum. I am looking to convert it to power. Can somebody show the exact stuff that I need to do this?? If that is what I need, how much are you asking for it?? Is the proportioning valve different for power and manual??

Thanks,

Travis

That looks like a drum/drum setup. Drum/drum master cylinders have equal reserviors front and back. A disk/drum setup will have a larger reservior near the front of the truck, front brakes, and a smaller reservior at the back, nearest the booster, for the rear brakes. A disk/drum setup will also need a proportioning valve to operate properly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can interchange the boosters, delco for a delco and the other brand for one of the same, from disk to drums, all you need to do is have the proper master cylinder for your application. I'm not sure if drum/drum setups with power even had a prop. valve. Anyone know for sure???

I agree, it appears to be a '67-'70 setup, & yes, my '70 with power has a prop valve. The LMC catolog shows shows 67-70 boosters, master cylinders, and prop valves all to have a different part # than '71-'72 models, but I'm not sure what the differences are. There can't be much difference though, because I have put a '70 booster on a '72 and it worked fine. Also, just an FYI, I bought a new rebuilt master cylinder for my '71 the other day from O'reilly auto parts for $12.88. Of course, I get a small discount, but I thought it was a great price.

Not to steal the thread, b/c I'm selling on too. That appears to me to be for a 67-68, b/c of the rod . Then it has to do with the mounting brackets. I don't know what kind you have. Next, is wheather it is from a 1/2 or 3/4 ton. And with that isn't it decided by the proportioning valve, b/c it proportions in 3/4tons 75% in rear drums/25% for front disc. Help me if I am wrong. And last either you have one of these boosters to make it that you have power brakes or you do not.

Does anyone know what the real difference is?

the boosters are the same and you can put the newer masters on them if the piston depth is the same. 73 - 87s make great doners for the prop vlv and master. even the brakes if you do it right. as far as 1/2 and 3/4 I have nothing. if you all need stuff I might be able to get to it when I get home next month.

drum/drum vehicles do not have a proportioning valve, but a ditributing valve. Equal pressure to all 4 wheels.
It has been said on here that the booster for drum/drum and disc/drum are interchaingable, but I was never able to make it work on the Longhorn. At one time I had a booster for a disc set up and the one that was on it was dead. I tried putting the stock master cylinder on there and it was a no go. They went together as good as teenagers and drugs.
The 3/4 ton and one ton trucks had a different booster than what is pictured, that is a 1/2 ton unit. The bigger trucks had a smaller unit that was deeper...a dual diaphram deal.
