What Do You Think It Is Worth?

First, I am a newbie....I am looking forward to learning so much on this forum. I am going this Sat. to look at a 1972 Super Cheyenne, LWB, 350. The truck has been painted Black & White; the interior has also been change over. Originally, it was Medium Olive / Dark Olive (557), with Olive Cloth Custom interior.

Now to the big question, "How much would you pay for it"? I have included some pics the owner sent to me. On the SPID, you can see the Olive paint around the edges. Looks like someone has "stained" the woodgrain on the glovebox. Ballpark range would help; any information or things to look for on Saturday would also be deeply appreciated. I am getting this for me and my 13 year old to tinker around with....when he gets his driver's license, he will drive it. Thanks Guys...enjoy the pics!!!

Marks on the hood are from a Horse bit.

Looks straight...guys says no rust or bondo!!

Son and I want to paint exterior solid Blk, interior will be Blk & Red

Green paint showing through around the SPID

Black stain on Glovebox and Door panels!!

Other Toys!!!

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

How solid is it? Cab corners? Cowl? Rockers? Windshield frame?

If it's rust free, and decent drive train, then $4,500 wouldn't be bad. Some body issues, $2,500 is closer.

I don't think numbers matching on the engine is a big deal, it's not an original truck as far as paint and colors go. It sure wouldn't affect what I would pay for it. If it was an original paint truck, without much changed, then it may affect what I would pay a little.

Satuday's visit with trailer intow will get the true answer to those questions. Seller seem very up front about the truck...we will see. We are taking the exterior all black, and the interior Blk w/Red. Any more pointers to look for?

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

Not really 'numbers' .. just thinking 0010 block, etc. He also says rust free.. no bondo. No tilt, no tach, no buckets. I'm guessing it has a headliner and cab light in it?

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

I know this sounds bold but - what is the seller asking?

From the pictures I noticed the tailgate is either down or missing. Also the inspection sticker looks to have expired in 06? Not that it’s a big deal but it lets you know it hasn’t been driven much (legally).

Take it for a good test run and check everything you can (instrument gauges, brakes, steering, alignment, air-conditioning, and heater). Check for leaks (oil, tranny, coolant, and diff). Check everything as if it needed to pass a state inspection – lights, signals, horn, wipers, and tires. This will let you know what you will need to address as well as help with price negotiations.

My son (rat96) and I did the same thing. We got his truck in January and spent countless hours (and money) working on it together. We’re not completely finished but it’s been his daily driver since July. The experience of working together with my son has been priceless. I’m sure when my son is older he will appreciate the time we spent together on his ride even more too. Major kudos to you - I know you will cherish the memories.

Good luck!

BTW – Where in Texas?

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

"I know this sounds bold but - what is the seller asking?" $3500

"From the pictures I noticed the tailgate is either down or missing. Also the inspection sticker looks to have expired in 06? Not that it’s a big deal but it lets you know it hasn’t been driven much (legally)."

Seller says he has 10 projects, Wife says something has to go! Says the clip on the tailgate handle that holds the rods needs to be replaced (tailgate is down in pic). I think he said a year out of inspection and tags.

"Take it for a good test run and check everything you can (instrument gauges, brakes, steering, alignment, air-conditioning, and heater). Check for leaks (oil, tranny, coolant, and diff). Check everything as if it needed to pass a state inspection – lights, signals, horn, wipers, and tires. This will let you know what you will need to address as well as help with price negotiations."

That is exactly what I am doing!!

"BTW – Where in Texas?" Far West Texas

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

Yeah, it's worth that.. It just depends on if you like it and if everything checks out. I'd look at the cab corners, cab mounts, the back sides of both rockers, the space between the bed and cab (there's a little lip on the backside of the cab that likes to rust) Look under the carpet, especially at the corners where the floor meets the firewall and kick panels (around your feet area) .. Also check under the battery tray, in the front cup on the passenger side front fender, .. just all typical areas for rust to develop. The front core support area right under the battery will likely be a bit crusty (they all are really) ..

things that add up are the Cheyenne super option, bumpers, trim, 5 lugs, discs, etc. All of that you'd likely need to replace (?) Just think long term and your plans for it. Overheating issues, shoddy wiring in the firewall area .. if it hasn't been molested and you like it .. offer $3k cash and see what happens. (?)

You can't go wrong for that. Clean it up and just fix little stuff, new tires and some clean 8" rallys and you're in good shape.

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

welcome to the forum, truck looks to be worth the asking price but I never give that, I would test drive then if it's ok I'd start at 2750.

Re: What Do You Think It Is Worth?

Yeah, .. turn around and walk away if you need to. Judging by the looks of your other 'toys' .. this is not your first rodeo.

Do what you do brother.. if you like it, get it. If a SWB stepper, perfect metal and a brand new 408ci Big Block interests you, I have one for sale. It's in my build threads. I'll make you a killer deal on it. .. just needs finished up. I have a new Painless wiring harness for it, etc. .. bunch o' stuff.
