DIY Media Blast / Sand Blast Feedback

Looking at equipment to media blast the truck myself. Can anyone provide feedback on the best (and most cost effective) equipment to purchase, tips and tricks, and any miscellaneous feedback?

Seems pretty straightforward as long as you take the time to prep the spray area and body panels first. This is new as I usually remove paint with an orbital sander but am under the impression that media blast will result in a cleaner / straighter surface.

i am useing a cheap sandblaster. it's just the gun a hose and a bucket. i blasted the frame,suspension and body parts and it works very well. just make sure your compressor has the balls to keep up. and i found the ceramic tips last 5 times longer than the steel tips. i use aluminum oxcide for the best results.

i've used a pressure blaster for many years for larger things i've always used sand for cheap good results, if you put up barriers of pplywood and are blasting on a concrete surface you can recycle the sand a few times to keep the cost atn rock bottom just have to sift it bofore using it// the pressure blaster allows you to vary the pressure so no worries on large panels, also on larger panels NEVER blast directly into the panel but at least a 45degree angle to avoid damage// surface shoould be gone over with wax and grease remover and scotchbite pads b4 primer

wwhatever blasting method MOISTURE IS YOUR ENEMY bagged media is really the way to go ,playground sand does a pisspoor job for blasting

i have a brotherinlaw whose real cheap figured hed save a bunch of money by gettin "FREE" sand at the beach,he screened it ,it blasted well then he painted his ground up project looked great

of course he didnt figure out that the beach sand was mixed with the salt from the ocean till about 4months later and the car was trashed

Good thing I read the whole last post. I live so close to the beach I thought I might save bunches of money....lol. Thanks for the great info. I too have thought about a sand blaster and now I will go and look for a decent inexpensive unit.

Has anyone bought the blasters from Eastwood? I've always wondered how their products held up.

When i did my camaro I just used aircraft grade paint stripper and than used a $120 sandblaster I bought at TSC, worked great
