Red face Some people...

Walking out of work yesterday I saw a "decent" 67 Chevy longbed sitting in the visitor parking and an older guy sitting sideways with the door open a bit. I told him he had a nice 67 and he told me that it's really hard to get parts for a 67. He then started saying that 67 was the only year that the parts will fit. I mentioned that 68 fenders are interchangeable and he started arguing and telling me that every dimension on the 67 is different than any other year of truck. I tried telling him that the back window and steering gearbox is about the only difference, but he said the cab is a different size as well as everything else... "Ok, well good luck" I said and kinda laughed to myself as I walked away.

Re: Some people...

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach.....and that's the way he wants it.......well, he gets it.
Even outside the world of classic chevy trucks....I'm astounded by the number of people who CHOOSE to remain ignorant. When faced with a contradictory position, all it takes is a small morsel of time to do a tiny bit of research to realize that what they've been told or lead to believe is complete B.S.
Oh well, I guess for some what one believes is more important that what is correct.

... now, I don't like this anymore than you men......

the guy was probably hoping that you would start drooling and wanting him to sell it once he said that "his" 67 is different than 68's.

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer" **

Re: Some people...

Sad really, I am 15 and this happens to me all the time, some older person thinks they are right because they have experience. Even though I have done research and read and read. Experience helps, but not always.

I would have told the guy to come here and tell this stuff to us...

Should have told him that GMC parts would have worked on it too, probably would have cussed you out though.

Re: Some people...

Lol... Thirdstreettito get used to it. It happens to me all the time, I'm 18 now but I got my lil red '71 when i was 13. I've been working on these rigs ever since then and I used to get so much crap because i "didn't know what I was talking about." Like you said all you can do is read and learn and educate yourself, and hopefully you happen upon someone with knowledge of these trucks as well that will appreciate a young guy that has so much interest in these trucks. Blue '72 where do you work? I work in longview at the PUD, and live in kelso. I might've seen the truck before...

I actually work in Portland. Yeah, long commute! I would love to work closer to home! You're very lucky!! So you must know Taylor's mom then..?

And, I know what you mean about older folks looking down and not taking the youngsters seriously! I'm 36 now, but for many years I experienced that. In fact, I was 19 or 20 when I was showing my 70 Chevelle cloned SS at a car show and these two guys, in their late 50's probably, was telling me what a nice SS I had. I was honest about it and fessed up that it wasn't a real SS. They stood there and argued with me about it because it had all the tell tale signs of a true SS like the dash, console.. exhaust tips... I was the one that pulled all the Malibu emblems and trim off that rust bucket and completed my restoration with the SS dash and all those goodies.. They just found it hard to believe a "kid" I guess.....

I'm surrounded by people this ignorant. You need to run into him a few more times and either start selling him some rare parts or take it off his hands.

Re: Some people...

Way I figure it.....hes old and set in his ways so just basically smile, nod throw in the occasional "Oh Really" and "I didnt know that" and go on................hes past teaching and past caring. I know this from dealing with my dad, I used to argue with him about things but overtime I just listen say ok and do it the way Ive learned to do it. Hence the old saying.........Cant teach an old dog new tricks
