Aligning cowl and passenger fender... and bolts
Guys
71 C10 pickup... I try real hard to keep track of every bolt and its location. kept everything in bins with labels. but then, the bin rack tipped over (zip lock bags from now on!!). So now, im trying to figure out what bolts go where and if i lost a few of these fender shims. So heres my questions: 1)All these little pointed bolts with 1/2" head seem to come in 2 lengths. Is there a rule for where the longer ones went vs the shorter ones (im talking core support to fender, core support to little triangle corner supports and cowl to cab bolts) 2)My left cowl corner lines up very well with my fender and door, but the right corner sits up pretty high, even when everything is bolted down. All original metal. Hows the fit on you guys' trucks? Pics would be great! 3)The assembly manual said that shims were used as needed. So i take that as some trucks got them, some didnt. My right fender looks like it could use a shim in the front top hole (by the cowl)...the cowl and fender have no gap. Back hole/gap looks ok. I only have 1 shim (may have lost others) and i used that down by the bottom of the fender. Is that normal for only one of those top bolts to get a shim or do both holes get shims? 4)Did the shims come in different thicknesses? If so, any good places to get good ones vs crappy ones? sorry for the long post thanks guys! |
