HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
I bought this truck in June of '99. It was in descent shape with the usual rusty cab corners and rockers, and the engine had a dead miss, but I liked it alot, so I bought it. I got it home and tried to tune it up, but the dead cylinder had no compression(valve), and it drove my crazy, so I had to tear into it. My plan was to rebuild the engine, fix the rust, repaint it, and drive it. That plan didn't last long. Here's what I started with.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
I tore it down and one thing led to another. The original engine was in great shape other than the heads. My brother in law owned a machine shop, so he helped me rework the engine. He bored it .020, turned the crank .010, and kept it original other than an RV cam. Since most everything was still there and so original under the hood, I decided to keep everything that way, other than HEI. I figured that I could always add some goodies later. I didn't go into detail on the frame and suspension, because I knew that it wouldn't stay that way if I drove it much, and I have a long dirt driveway. I cleaned it up, reworked the brakes, and repainted it. I also replaced the rockers and cab corners, then painted the cab inside and out. I couldn't find any pics of when I had the cab off.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
It has sat in the garage most of these years while I collected parts. I work on it when I get time. I have collected and added original style bucket seats, console, tilt, am/fm, speedwarning, cruise, tach, wood bed floor, and 95% of all the new parts that I need to finish it. Last year I had the bed, fenders, tailgate, and hood soda blasted and got it all in primer. I got a crazy idea to put the fuel tank in the rear and hide the fuel filler behind the tail light. Once I finished that, I assembled the bed and parked it again. I plan to go with 6 lug rallies for now, but will probably change everything to 5 lug with disc brakes when I can afford some wheels. Over the years, I seem to be changing from factory original to mild custom with it.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
FINALLY!! I get to see pics of the of the HuggerCST! (I PM'd you about pics of it a while back and you never responded... hurt my feelings a little, but I'm OK! -j/k) I can't wait to see it finished. That is probably my favorite color combo on these trucks, at least on 69-72's, IMO.
Here's some inspiration for ya if you haven't seen it already! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=266393

Wynne,
It's good to see you have a build thread started on that thing. I hope you make some good progress this summer.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
I'm split between Torque thrust 2s(pic #2) and Crager 390's(or Halibrand sprints)(pic #3), but they will be 17"s. My 3rd choice is chrome rallys. When I change wheels I'll lower it 2/4, or maybe 3/5. This is a pick of BraveDave's truck, close to what I'm shooting for.

That thing is going to be one slick ride when it's finished. I love the gas filler mod, very clean.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
Yeah I've been putting it off because #1- I don't have alot of pictures; #2 Lazyness; and #3 I didn't want my truck to end up catching the Killer71 disease.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
Weekend progress- Nothing exciting, but I'm glad to be making progress. I have a aftermarket RF fender, and the wheel opening lip was wavey,(like most aftermarkets seem to be), so I decided to straighten it out. I got it done, but want to block & reprime it one more time. I got the LF fender primed and ready, I welded up the bowtie holes in the hood and got it primed, but I think I'll block & prime it one more time also; and I got the gate done except for the trim holes. Anyone know if my truck should have the lower trim on the gate? Just curious, I've got a new one, so I might as well use it. I've seen it on a few trucks, I just didn't know what year/trim level etc. got that piece of trim.

Yes. I do it as a hobby and for side money, which is why this build is taking so long.

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
This one will be, but I don't have a booth.(yet) I'll be borrowing one for the final paint on this job. I do respectable work, but I don't do it enough to be as good as the pros, or have the best equipment, so the pros can usually find my mistakes. This one is easy because it's not a metallic.

Just take your time and color sand and buff everything before it goes back together and you will be very surprised what can be done at home. Truck looks great so far now just keep it up and don't get burnt out. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: HuggerCST's '70 SWB CST build
Guys,
I have seen Wynne's work and he is real good. This truck will be nice. Wynne, I don't think your truck would have that bottom trim on the tailgate. I know the 71 and 72 Custom Deluxe trucks had it even if it had the big tailgate trim but I have never seen it on a Cheyenne or a Super regardless. I'm not sure if a CST had it or not but I doubt it. Maybe someone else will pipe in.
