Couldn't sell it

I'm one of those guys now.*

I get a lot of interest in my truck when I have my garage door open.

So, someone stopped by and we talked about it and what it was worth.

He stopped by a few days later with a check.

I had to turn him away though. I just couldn't sell it even though I've not been able to do much on it for years. I think the price might have been fare enough, but it's not just the truck I'd be selling, it's the dream. And, the dream is worth more that $2400 .

I felt bad for the guy, but he seemed to completely understand.

*no, I can't sell it, Imma fix her up one day.

Re: Couldn't sell it

I feel the same way when I bought mine for 1500 on the way home I was offered 3000 could have doubled my money in 15 minutes but I couldn't let the dream of what the truck can be go, plus I realized I'll never find a deal like I did again 1500 for a clean SWB 68 with a 700r4 tube upper and lower a arms, and a few other things. People also stop and ask how much for your truck and I always have to turn them away, Someone usually comes by once every two weeks leaves a phone number even after I have told them "not for sale" Dont sell it Im with you, even if it sits for 15-20 years before I touch it, cant let the dream go

Congrats....Your in the family now

There are some things that might make me sell my 70, but it would be close to life and death within my family, and I would still have a hard time parting with it.

Re: Couldn't sell it

I am the same way with the 72. It's been sitting for 5+ years but can't let it go because of the big block and swb along with super straight rust free body, even have protecto-plate. I would porbably let the 69 lwb go for enough money to finance the 72.

Re: Couldn't sell it

Had her since '96. Just can't seem to let 'er go, but mine is driven almost daily

I'm originally from the jamestown area (near lake chautauqua). I had all sorts of offers to buy my "rust free" truck back in the day.

They're pretty common down here in SC so I don't get any "do you wanna sell's" anymore but I do get a lot of "hey, nice truck"

Re: Couldn't sell it

WEIRD

My truck was originally from Texas and spent a lot of time in the Columbia, SC area, then my uncle (who lives there) drove it to NY in '96 and I bought it off of him

I went to Clemson in '99 and brought the truck down with me in '02. I've been a transplanted redneck for a good 8 years

Really? Awesome

I drive it all over hell, I was wondering if anyone from the board was gonna ever see me rollin' in 'er

There's an older fella that I pass almost every day on Pelham road, he drives an orange longbed (with some primer spots) and even though I see it every day, at the moment I can't remember for the life of me what year it is!!! I'm thinking it's a 68. It's a real nice/straight truck.

Re: Couldn't sell it

My truck was bought in Piedmont, I think, then taken to Texas and found it's way back to Piedmont, I think, where I bought it (might have been Pickens)

I came back from Greenville in '99 after finishing up at USC-S.

My boss was Dr. Warner at Clemson. (Professor of Computational Mathematics, I think).

Here he is

Re: Couldn't sell it

So, a full year later the guy came back. I still hadn't worked on the truck. I sold him the truck, the 6.2 diesel, extra tranny and hoist for $3400. I'm very sad about it, but I think it's what was best for the truck. He'd done restos before, seemed well heeled and a nice guy. I just couldn't turn him away again.

He promised to stop by when it's done. It's truly a death of a dream though. :'(

Re: Couldn't sell it

Sorry you had to sell it, but look at it this way... you saved another good truck!
I remember a yellow shortbed that I used to have. I told my wife I was going to sell it. She said, "put it out front with a For Sale sign on it." So I did. Half hour later she says," Hey, there are two guys out front looking at your truck!" So I run out there and Yank the sign off the windshield. She just looks at me like... I knew you were a Chicken ****.
Well, years later I did sell it (which is another story). But now Im working on my 2wd Jimmy, so.. the story goes on.

Well...what can I say. It takes a special person and the right set of circunstances to hang on to their dream. It takes a special will power and determination to see a project through. I too like many others have had some vehicles that we had a dreams of fixing up but we sold them. But I was determined to keep my 70cst and some day fix it up. After about eight years that dream is now being realized! I will someday pass it on to 70cstjr but not until I get my motorized wheelchair.
superjeer...hopefully someday you will find another truck and fullfil your dream.

I figured out a way to help eliminate the temptation of selling mine: put more money in them than they'd ever be worth, that way if anyone ever makes you an offer, you can just laugh and move on .

Re: Couldn't sell it

I'm in the same boat, my dream has been sitting in the garage untouched for a year, just trying to get it running since I hit the deer. I've got another waiting for its day as well. I've been considering selling as money has been very tight, wife not working now, and paying for my daughter's college, I'm afraid to renew my membership here, as I know one night I'll start selling the parts...

Re: Couldn't sell it

I'm going through that now. I want to buy a 2003 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle. They run around $5000. If I sold the truck I could do it . . . But its pretty difficult to get a load of 4' X 8' sheets of plywood or drywall home on a Bonnie!
