Original 66 rear bumper?
I was going to scrap this bumper, but I was told it was the original rear bumper and it had some value. Would it be a bad idea to get rid of it? Should I restore it and keep it with the truck?

I will be moving to Illinois in a little over five months. If I do not decied to use it You'll be the first to know. So is this the original rear bumper or even a factory option?

Re: Original 66 rear bumper?
Most step bumpers like that were installed at the dealer. It's likely your truck left the factory without a bumper. So, technically it might not be factory, but it's original to the truck when new.

It's also interesting to note that these illustrations show a double plate for the hitch area. |

Re: Original 66 rear bumper?
I purchased a new '64 C-10. The dealer told me that the truck would arrive from the factory without a rear bumper and if I wanted one I could buy it from them and have them install it before delivery which is what I did.

Re: Original 66 rear bumper?
I'd say it looks very similar to mine in that it looks like it might have been built to the same plans except that I don't have the upper plate where your trailer ball is attached.

Somewhere around the Naval Base I will be an Instructor there.

It almost looks like the top plate was welded on and then someone used a plasmacutter to cut holes in the top plate to put the ball in different locations. Or maybe different bumper attachments. |

Re: Original 66 rear bumper?
the top plate was most likely added as most only had the lower one

Re: Original 66 rear bumper?
Hi,
Can't tell from the pic, but, if that bumper has the wrap-around sides I am also looking for one, here is a link to my wtb ad with a pic of the wrap around http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=683725 If it were me I'd keep it, but obviously, I like this style bumper, so put me in line if you decide to swap it out |
