quick question

i jacked up the rear end of the frame and was curious if it has posi, when i spun one wheel the other one didnt spin at all, does this mean its posi or limited slip? when the other one spins the opposite way i think it means its open, so i dont think its that ? but could someone tell me if its posi or limited slip

Did you have the transmission in neutral? On an open differential setup, when you spin one wheel and the trans is in neutral, either the drive shaft Or the other wheel will spin in the opposite direction. Depends on which has less resistance to turn.

If the trans was in gear or park and only one wheel spins.... better find a part store thats close lol, because your going to be walking there , Truck wont move with broken spider gears OR bad posi plates/springs that allow the diff to freewheel.

You'll need to have someone hold the pinion while you turn a wheel. If it were a posi, both wheels would have been turning regardless of a driveshaft in place or not.

sounds like an open diff to me. Pull the cover off anyways. Its a good idea to look it over and change the rear end fluid which will smell like camel piss if it has never been changed before
