Bad vibration
Hey guys,,, I recently picked up a 70 c-10 with a 350/700r combo and love the truck. The only thing is I have a bad vibration around 45-60 Mph. My truck shakes the hell out of me around those speeds.
You can be at a constant 50mph and be just fine, then i guess when the throttle is pressed to maintain/gain speed it start to shake violently. Any ideas? Tires? Driveshaft? something else? The truck still has a 2 piece driveshaft is that causing an issue with the 700r? please help guys.....i dont know where to start |

Re: Bad vibration
I would suspect drive shaft. Or U-joints. Check all of that carefully, or better yet, have the shaft checked by a shop for balance. Could also be other things (diff, bearings, tires). But that was my first thought.

Re: Bad vibration
You have an OD. Is your converter lockup acting up? Also, try turning the rear section of the drive shaft (assuming 2 piece) 180 degrees at the rear differential ujoint. Sometimes if the ujoint axis's aren't opposite it will cause a bad vibration.

Re: Bad vibration
thanks guys,, you guys are awesome
I recently replaced/checked most of the front end components, everything seems to be very tight. The converter lock up works great, never noticed anything out of the ordinary from that, seems to work perfect. I'll have to check the other stuff... gonna start with tires and driveshaft and move on from there. I didnt do any of the work on the truck so i could be alot of things i suppose |

When I had that problem years ago, I struggled to find the cause. I tried everything, from tires, to diff bearings, to wheel bearings, to trans mounts and engine mounts. Eventually the tail section of my trans cracked due to the vibration (which pretty much told me what I needed to know), so I had my trans shop fix that and send the drive shaft out for balance. Sure enough, even though the shaft was straight as an arrow, it was out of balance. They rebalanced it and smooth running ever since.

Re: Bad vibration
When I bought my truck one of the back wheels was on crooked. It shook at 55 to 65 really bad. I drove it 400 miles home that way. Get the truck off the ground, and spin the wheels. See if they are straight, or not. Good luck.

Re: Bad vibration
I put a 1 piece drive shaft in my truck. I don't have to worry about the carrier bearing any more.
