Is it important to seal your overflow bottle for your rad or vent it?
I used a metal water bottle and the hose is passes through the cap and is sealed. Is this ok?

No. The bottle has to be vented or the incoming pressure from the radiator can blow the hose out.

Also, don't most overflows also have a provision is case they overflow? (Which would also act as the vent.)
